bookshops are so cool and a true escape

but why doesn't australian hve those book shops that are also like cafes and you go and snuggle up into a sofa with a hot chocolate and read the books - like those ones in you've got mail

does anyone else go to 2nd hand bookshops like Elizabeth's, and all the ones in newtown?

They're more of an escape i reckon, free from the commercialisation of dymocks and a&r, plus the range is more varied and it's usually cheaper

There used to be this really great second hand bookstore in Bondi Junction, but they closed it down. It was a shame, really, it was packed with classics.

Has anyone been to borders in Bondi Junction? It's so neat and well-organised lol, not what I'm used to in a bookshop, it even has harbour views for crying out loud! but then again the range was pretty good tho

Ok, I must add this:

Less10.com has free shipping to Australia, has no GST, and is usually very cheap. I can recommend them.

I would definitely stay away from emporiumbooks.com.au, however. I've had huge problems with them, as have a few other people I know at uni. :)

If you don't want to buy a book that noone has read before, try checking out your local op-shop. The books are usually still in good condition, and they're cheap cheap cheap (haha, spot the uni student :p)

I just use amazon.com for books $30 and over... even with the shipping, it generally works out to be cheaper than buying locally.

I've gotten A$100 books off amazon.com for A$50.
