lawl, yeh a bit off topic, sorry

Umm ok some guy told me this:

I'd even choose Macquarie over USyd for Comm. Comm @ USyd sucks balls.
Had a face to face with recruiters from the finance industry. They tell me employers rate comm/business degrees as follows:

UNSW/MQ > USyd/UTS > UWS > ....
This is VERY IMPORTANT TO ME, can anyone verify if this is correct?
Does usyd commerce really suck tht much in both general and from the persception of the recruiters?

unsw.

because u get actuary major.

and usyd got savaged in the 2009 Good Unis Guide
consider Macquarie for actuary, their program is very well established

for most other commerce-related majors, UNSW seems to edge out USYD, excpt if u want to transfer into commerce/law in 2nd year, in which case USYD is considered 'better' , because of their law faculty (and their new building)

in terms of campuses, it depends whetehr u like old architecture (sanstone buildings), or ultramodern

because USYD has a lot of heritage style buildings (not ALL are old, though), but undoubtably UNSW has more of an ultramodern feel - personally i love UNSW's campus and buildings (even though im probs goin to macquarie) - if you ever go there you will see how awesome all the buildings look, but thats just my opinion

its a tough choice, i understand, but in the end only you can decide

good luk with your decision!

with regards to law, unless you aspire to be a high court judge there's really not that much difference between unsw and usyd.

anyways, now we are a bit offtopic.

it's sort of related
USyd med or UNSW med?
there's a 10k scholarship for Usyd, but it's an extra year longer. there's an extra degree, but it means the med is compressed into 4 years instead of UNSW's 6.
Thoughts?

since you get scholarship at both unis anyway i'd probably lean towards unsw

1 yr shorter is obviously a good thing, and unsw also gives you a reserach year, which, if you want to do honours/phD etc will come in handy.

probalby best to discuss this on med s. online

dp, to do usyd med, dont u first need to do a course like Bachelor of science, then u do the med course?
its like the uq course.. first bachelors and then mbbs

so basically guaranteed grad entry?

yeah, no gamsat required. i;'m guaranteed a place in usyd med, got offer last week. but apparently you need it as 1st pref. if you list it as 2nd pref and you don;'t make your 1st pref (say UNSW med) then they don't offer you the usyd course. it's pretty annoying really, as i can't put UNSW then Usyd. I have to decide soon,, aiya

with regards to:

UNSW/MQ > USyd/UTS > UWS > ....

i have no idea if that is true - you'll have to speak to people in the finance industry yourself and ask them, but i think it is highly opinionated (is that a word? lol) and you may (more likely, will) get varying answers

also, a lot has changed since the boss of thaat big finance company got his/her degree, with regards to uni courses, so some info may be 'outdated'

if you are purely going by the rankings, as little as that may tell, UNSW is rated as having the 2nd best business faculty in Australia after UMelb. also while MQ is renowned for its accounting and actuary, it would be stretching it a little to put it above USYD.

in the end you should be looking at issues relating to course structure and transport than which Uni is 'thought to be better'

yeh too true!

But both uni seems so even to me, like usyd is beter in terms of transport and also saves me an extra $3 toll per trip, whilsat unsw offfers flexibility in timetables which usyd doesnt really offer...

so hmm tyring to find more disadvantages of each uni...

yeh haha blah blah blah blah "ASIANS" blah blah thts mostly wat it sAYS

But seriously if UNSW is tht muc better in terms of being tht much more practical than usyd and employers views, i would stil sacrifise the transport and the extra $3 toll per trip.

But yeh im hoping i could get more answers...
