Re: At least 14 dead in Victoria bushfires

1000+ dead in the Gaza thing. But cha didn't care about that, did ja? Cunt.

Yes bad news all around. If it's arson then it deserves like, murder sentences or summat, but if it was negligence (cigarette butts) then eh.

Do you have a soul? Why are you politicising someone elses grief over a natural disaster? This is Australia and this is affecting Australians.

For once I agree with you, bringing politics into this is just disgusting.

Re: At least 14 dead in Victoria bushfires

Nah there have been a few other cyclones etc over the years that have killed 100+ people.

Some of the comments on new.com and that are fucking sick.

I dont think people realise how fast this happened.
Nah, only one other natural disaster has killed more than these bushfires.

CYCLONE MAHINA, 1899: struck Cape York in the country's far north, causing the greatest death toll of any natural disaster in Australia's recorded history. More than 400 people died, including the crews of about 100 pearling fleet vessels, and an estimated 100 local Aborigines

In terms of other bushfires/cyclones, this surpasses them all.

Re: At least 14 dead in Victoria bushfires

Your birth was a fucking natural disaster.

A natural disaster is the consequence of a natural hazard (e.g. volcanic eruption, earthquake, or landslide) which affects human activities. Human vulnerability, exacerbated by the lack of planning or appropriate emergency management, leads to financial, environmental or human losses. The resulting loss depends on the capacity of the population to support or resist the disaster, their resilience.[1] This understanding is concentrated in the formulation: "disasters occur when hazards meet vulnerability".[2] A natural hazard will hence never result in a natural disaster in areas without vulnerability, e.g. strong earthquakes in uninhabited areas. The term natural has consequently been disputed because the events simply are not hazards or disasters without human involvement.[3]
Heat waves aren't usually hazards that meet vulnerability man, they're more like, above average temperatures that whilst hot, they're not going to make the Earth spontaneously combust into flames. Generally the only people who die from heat waves are old people and young people, those most vulnerable to dramatic changes in temperature. Usually it's dehydration or heat stress. It's like last week when they said there was a massive heatwave and it was going to reach 47 out here. So what man, 47 isn't that fucking rare of an occurance.

Becuase his approach to this issue is as mature, practical and useful as the rest of his political opinions. What a retarded leftie joke ..

Sad thing is he doesen't really know jack about the Palestine situation either.

Who is to blame for these fires and their consequences?
*The arsonists
*The greenies and their opposition to fire breaks and other pre-enmptive fire controlling measures.
* The Vic Labor government for caving in to the greenies, and the ineffective federal Labor government for their delayed response.

Nobody is to blame except the arsonists. I'd be interested to see whether fire breaks would have done anything, considering fires of this intensity can jump several hundred metres.

Its not just the breaks, but the controlled burns, removal of high risk trees and vegetation etc.

It's $1000 each and $22,000 to help build a new home, actually. Does that annoy you? Spending your taxpayer dollars to help the victims of a disaster?

Sure, they should have insured themselves fully so much to not need any amount of government assistance.
