Find someone you're confident in front of with a similar proficiency in the subject , and quiz each other on syllabus things, but not strictly- Go off on any tangent within the subject you're studying. Ask each other questions etc. It's fun!

all sit in a room together studying the subject privately. ONLY talk if its for a question related to the subject. if someone starts talking on something irrelevant, make a 20c penalty. at the end of the study period (be it just the day or week or after the exams or something) you're bound to have a fair bit of change, so go get a coffee as a group :D
That's a good idea :)

Everyone usually listens to their mp3 while studying and we just talk when we need to ask a question :)

^ I like the above idea. Although I think I'd end up contributing a dollar or two over a couple of weeks.

If the group is studying for the same subject, maybe the people in the group can quiz each other on certain topics.
If you're studying WW1 for Modern History, for example, you could ask questions like "Explain Allied attempts to end the stalemate", or something. And while the answers probably won't be as detailed as they would be written down, at least it gets the group thinking, spending group study time productively.

I find studying in a group quite effective, if it's less than 4 people.

I think group study is great, but it works best if you have 'studied' and feel prepared for everything beforehand, in solitude. So when you go to the group sesh, when everyone quizzes each other you may be exposed to a question that you have trouble with, so you can fill the gap in that knowledge.

Also I think it works better closer to the exams when people are stressing and less likely to bludge. :p

I don't think it works when you are actually learning the stuff though.

Oh shit Phoebe. Just accidentally found you on BoS by clicking on your devART link. Hai.

@OP: Groups bigger than three usually end up in a discussion about something unrelated. Even with a couple of people nearby, it's kind of hard to concentrate if the ones near you aren't willing to focus either. Music helps.

Depends what your studying, and when your studying it. If your ages out from the exam, group work can be good for things like English. Delegate a chapter of the book for each person to analyse in depth, then pool your information at the end. If each of you do a couple of chapters, the book will be done, with a full depth anaylsis of the whole thing. You still have to read it, but it cuts down the workload.
