Also, mental illnesses are different and have different affects on sufferers. It is important to understand the specific illness and exactly the sort of stuff you will be getting involved with and whether or not you can handle them.
For example, I would avoid getting involved with an anorexic or bulimic who is very physically unwell and underweight. In my experience it will take a very long time to get from that stage to recovery, and will involve a lot of awful hospital business and health issues.
Additionally, I would be hesitant about starting a relationship with someone who has only very recently been diagnosed with bipolar. It often takes quite a while to find the correct medication and dosage, with the affects of the process being quite intense, confusing and draining to be around.
