it became easier for me, but then mx2 becam to demanding and dropped 2 ranks in business(actually i thought i was going to keep MX2 and so thought business wasnt going to count so slacked off) and 1 in english

I'm actually really scared of stuffing up and dropping 40+ ranks in my subjects, because i was around average in the junior years, with absolutely no idea how I was able to come top 5 in everything now.

so If I work hard, it is definitely possible to maintain my ranks?

i dnt know why but people at my school started slacking off more in year 12 (in my classes anyway)... when they turned 18, any study time turned into pubbing/clubbing time =/

also many people have come from being average-very below average up to the top

Very true. Noticed an increase in the amount of people organising truanting, etc. But yeah, some people from Junior years that were average have come up a fair bit, including me, admittedly.

some of these people are actually naturally smart, and once they start trying hard, their marks can be sky rocket.

I know that trying hard will pay off, but I tried very hard in Year 10 yet my ranks were top 30 at best, and top 110 at worst. It's just miraculous that my ranks are suddenly in the top 5.

i dunno whether history will repeat itself.

Forget about maintaining ranks and work on increasing your ranks.
From year 11 to year 12 i either jumped up in ranks or stayed steady.

It wasn't that hard maintaining/increasing ranks; just continue keeping on top of homework, starting and finishing assignments early etc etc

Sounds like your a natural - people tend to either sink or swim during the transition from year 10 to year 11...

yea, actually most of the top people in my year were average, the people that were at the top in earlier years have gone down to lower ranks... my friend (before i came to the school i finished year 12 at) apparently was aceing everything in years 7 8 and 9 but as he went through he studied less, procrastinated more on the net etc oh yea, i heard he only had 1 friend back then =/

no, I'm not. In Year 10, I worked really hard and my ranks were very inconsistent, ranging from top 30 to top 110th. I can say that I worked as hard in Year11 as I did in Year 10... and it's strange how I did better in Year 11.
The fact that I'm suddenly in the top 5 means that everyone else is just slacking off...

and I have a bad feeling that everyone is going to start trying hard... and I will go back down to rank 110th

Haha year 12 was an improvement for me. 25th to 1st in Eng Adv, ending up topping most of my subjects -> your ranks can improve dramatically. I didn't understand how to work hard until year 12.

a lot of people do an accelerated course in yr 11 and there prelim marks suffer a bit. When yr 12 starts however, most have the extra free time and then it shows on their marks. Most of these people improved on their ranks. That being said, my ranks were pretty consistent, some going up by a few and some going down.

Nobody ever paid much attention to the subjects I was good at in Years 7-10, and I never really tried. My good subjects were English, Drama, Commerce, and History/Geography. Nobody cared about these subjects. They mainly cared about maths and science, and I was abysmal at both. Then this year I started working harder in Maths and I jumped 3 classes from the 7th class to the 4th class. People used to think I was in 2U Maths and now I do 4U. And the subjects thatnobody else cared about are the one I'm excelling in, and a 97 in any subject is pretty darb good, so now I'm starting to get noticed. And I haven't really started working hard yet. If you're natural ninetypercent chances are this year you've refined your sutdying skills and have thus jumped ranks. I am yet to hear of anyone that doesn't try harder in Year 11/12.

at my school from yr10 to yr11, i've noticed the usual people who top everything sort of disappearing a bit... quite a few more people are emerging as the better students. your main problem with maintaining your ranks i'm guessing would be not getting lazy - thinking that just because you did good in year 11, you'll do the same in year 12. now you've got the added pressure of people who are finally getting serious about school because it's HSC.

You maintain your rankings the same way you did in Year 11. Simple.

That being said, it will be a little harder to maintain your ranking simply because some of the other students in your classes will be like me - they may have decided to work harder in Year 12.

For example, I am one of those people that didn't really worry too much about the Preliminary course, and that was reflected through my marks. I've started changing my study patterns because this is the "real thing". Now that we've started the HSC course, I'm managing my time efficiently - as in, I write notes regularly, do all my h/w, RHIP at least once a week, use my free periods AS study periods and I've also started working on both my PIP and Ext. 2 major work. << That's what I've been told I should do to maintain a high ranking.

It's pretty easy to maintain rankings if you work harder and more efficiently than you did in year 11. I maintained the following rankings: 1st in legal studies, english advanced, english extension and 2nd in economics. Plus I got 2nd in biology, which was better than year 11.
