No. It depends on a variety of factors. Certainly it can help to get multiple perspectives on some of the topics. This may be a benefit, depending on how you learn. However, it is not necessary.

unless you somehow got your hands on a really bad textbook, that and some past papers should be enough to do decently
i don't reccomend buying a whole lot of textbooks for the prelim course

having many textbooks may help, though you don't necessarily have to buy them. just borrow them from your library or teacher.

If I bought 10 textbooks, I think my brother and my parents will rip me to bits and not go anywhere, apart from home and school, for the two years straight.

i only have a modern one casue we have no textbook for it and gives detailed answers but apart from that u can still do well on one textbook

EDIT: HTA study guide for modern history is really good though - it basically replaced my text book XD

Search around bos, but there are a limited number of text books though - mainly science ones.
