One of the maths teachers wrote on a smartboard insisting it would rub off. Legend.
lol , apparently the board isn't smart enough to be "teacher-friendly"

btw, the smartboard is really a waste of money, so are the laptops.
It would be much more effective if the govmt spend the money elsewhere, like better pay for teachers

How much are they? Provided the teacher knows how to and uses them effectively (not often) they're pretty good imo.

lol people dying from second hand smoke is a load of crap is it even possible for you to die if you just stand around someone who was smoking and you smell and breathe the smoke into your body hell no. i mean hear me out how long does a first hand smoker take to die 30-40 years maybe, how long would it take a second hand smoker to die 200 years lol. second hand smoking is a load of bull.
I'm not talking about the time it takes to die. Cancer affects everyone differently.

And yes you can develop cancer from second hand smoking. Duh.

My maths teacher made good use of the smartboards, using them to draw graphs and visually explain concepts.

I hope you're not being serious.

Smoking or second hand smoking affects everybody differently. You can't make a blanket statement like that.

You don't know how often somebody has been exposed to second hand smoke, or whether they have a pre existing medical condition which might be triggered or made worse by second handing smoking for example.

it's a good teaching tool if ur teacher is like tech-savvy(again, not often), but most of the graphs can be done without it

"Mathematics is critical to modern life and it will be essential for formulating a response to the present economic crisis. Yet Australian school children are coming out of schools not knowing that doing a calculation with pencil and paper is the way to learn mathematics. While the federal Government is ploughing money into infrastructure, we are staring at the vista of shiny new classrooms and rows of laptops with no mathematics teachers."

"As a mathematician and a parent, I do not understand why Australians must tolerate an education system that is inferior to that in America or Britain. Nor do I understand why we should accept a growing disparity in access to mathematics education across our school system. All Australian children deserve qualified mathematics teachers. Yet in Australia, policy-makers have either ignored the problems or taken only fragmented steps and half-measures to address them."

so my point is that if the government really wants to do something about it(which is unlikely, but I'm saying it anyway),
they should increase teachers' salary so that there would be more capable ppl willing to teach,
also when we have ATAR cut-offs as low as 70s for teaching, it's no wonder that some teachers aren't even smarter than the board

lol. I had a new teacher in year 12 bragging about how he only made the cutoff (mid to low 80s) to get into teaching by less than half a mark. What a dickhead. And he did suck at teaching.

^I admire that they nobly choose to save students from a sucky teacher. And for following (I presume their passion) despite no prestige or encouragement to go into teaching. But yes, it's still a little mind boggling when some gets 99+ and chooses a low ATAR course where some people would sell their unborn childor soul or something for that ATAR.

Oh and to whoever posted that the British and American education systems are superior, I would beg to differ, especially for the US. Have you ever heard about how they have the school lotteries? Or how easy their standardized tests are? It's messed up (especially the school lotteries IMHO).

Yeh she really loved the idea of teaching, which is great. But I just fear that she wouldn't be cut out for teaching in a lot of schools. It's all good and well that you love to teach, but a lot of teachers don't teach, they just babysit and control their class. She deserves a spot teaching in a selective school, but she'll probably end up in some dodgy as school, left tearing her hear out.
