People on this forum astound me. "I won't date anyone who hasn't achieved this level of education." >.> Higher level of education=/=higher level of intelligence.

I won't date anyone who does not weigh at least 90 kilograms.

LOL at this thread but in all seriousness, it's not the qualifications that matter but just their ability to converse and think on a similar wavelength. As fun as it may be to have a ditz as a partner, there are going to be times when you want to be able to have a genuine conversation with them and it may be a bit harder if that's the case- unless you're also equally a ditz.

More or less saying that the partner should have some common sense.

Also, something else I noticed. Guys who don't have any chance with any girls, let alone intelligent girls, having standards saying she must be 'this' intelligent.

I guess everything is relative.

But it also depends on other expectations- e.g. some parents may be of the school of thought a college degree is a necessity for a future potential son/daughter-in law.

for me intellect does matter but its something you don't really think about though. and there is always the one-off exceptions where you don't understand how they aren't getting an atar yet you connect well with them.

It depends on how smart/educated/intelligent/ambitious (etc etc) you are. THEORETICALLY your partner must match or exceed you in the traits listed, for a decent relationship. There's one girl I found who is pretty much identical to me in those traits, ie is on my level. On top of that, she's an absolute babe lol. So you could say its the perfect girl. However at my school most people are focused on academics than relatioships, which makes sense, HSC on the doorstep haha.

They don't actually show the dads on the show, they make like cameo appearances every so often.

What would be awesome though is "Please Marry My Daughter" and have an Asian dad with his daughter. Epic lulz to be had when the dad quizzes the guy at the initial meet up: "You got a B Engineering? WHY NOT A ENGINEERING?" (hehehe)

You can't both exceed each other (theoretically) in each trait... but I see with what you're saying- it's the traits which aren't quantifiable or really measured with qualifications/degrees.

In other words, no chance.

Bet she'll end up either dating an investment banker or someone totally different to what she is.

So does the education level e.g how much your partner has studied, if he/she goes to uni, tafe or neither matter to you?

Should it be an important factor in a relationship?
Right now, kind of yes. As heaps of people before me have stated, they would want that so they could converse with their partner. I too would like to have someone I could talk to, not only stupid talk, but also intellectual conversations. But I've haven't met that person yet, so when I do, maybe I'll change my mind.
As mnmaa said, it is society's GENERAL way of measuring intellect, but that doesn't mean society is right. People's upbringing and culture also affects their views towards this subject.
