Excellent news! I got offered the job then and there! :D

I start on Monday :)

I'm getting (significantly) more pay than I did at my old firm, plus it's extremely flexible with uni. I'm working 3 days a week and have the other two for uni, but in holidays I can do 5 days, and If my timetable means I need 3 days for uni, I can do two days of work.

Everybody seemed extremely nice (and it seemed rather casual compared to my old firm)

Hopefully this works out well, I'm so excited :D
wait... so you're already in uni? I'm a bit confused, so you're applying(applied) for jobs in general - not cadetships?

Okay, I finished y12 last year- so I'm in my 1st year of uni now.
I -was- undertaking a cadetship with a firm in the cbd, however I left at the end of June.
I now have a job (starting monday) in a small firm in Castle Hill where I'm a trainee accountant: It's basically a cadetship, except I'm permanently able to do part time work/with full time uni :) (Like what many do after 1 or 2 years of service)

The jobs I applied for were all because either a) another cadet had left their firm and needed to be replaced b) the firm had grown enough that a new junior needed to be brought in. In the case of my new job, the current cadet is now set to graduate (and will be staying with their firm as a qualified accounting doing her CA) so a new junior is needed to replace her :)

Also guys; I urge those of you who are still applying for cadetships to REVIEW YOU RESUMES AND COVER LETTERS FOR TYPOS!!!!

Yesterday in my interview the partner pointed out that some people who applied could't even spell properly on their resumes.
My brother (also a cadet, graduating at the end of this year) is assisting his boss with reviewing applications for people to be interviewed, and he can't believe how many people have stupid mistakes all through their applications!

His boss as basically said they won't bother with anybody that has stupid mistakes, because to them, it seems like you lack discipline and attention to detail.

I just needed to say this (because I personally couldn't believe it myself) but something so small could be costing people such a good opportunity!

I wouldn't go as far to say that it's an automatic culling at every firm, it definitely doesn't leave a very good impression. It's as bad as calling out the wrong firm name.

^ I agree with this. Considering the polite rejection emails were sent out on Monday(?) they've probably got everybody they need for both Parramatta and the city.

I would say in excess of $80k
You have to also consider other things like the firm itself, what type of accounting your doing and the position itself, and how long you've been working. (Ie, you did uni in 3 year and did your CA straight after with no work exp, I'd say your pay would be lower than somebod who'd been working for 6-7 years before they completed their CA.)

Just a guess though, I could be completely wrong D:

Do you mean right after you get your CA or for all people who are working and have a CA? MichelleV's comment is more the former rather than the latter I'd say.

Fyi; Hall Chadwick didn't do interviews until September last year, and may be delayed this year due to extenuating circumstances. Basically I'm saying don't give up on them if they don't call anytime soon. ;)

I also haven't heard back from CIB (I applied from Parramatta) so I've got no clue what's happening there.

LOOOOL did that :( i had to crack some stupid joke as soon as i made that mistake to save my backside and divert the interviewers' attention away from that mishap ;/ phew!

Glad it didn't affect the final decision outcome :p But yeah having made that mistake, do take due care coz it can become really awkward and the interviewers may even take offence (especially at the big 4) lol

I remember an accountant at some info thing back in 2010 told me that you can expect to earn AT LEAST 100k once you have held your CA qualification for 5 years. But that was back in 2010, and we won't be getting our CAs before 2017-18 so gotta take annual pay rises into consideration ..so it's a bit too hard to say what we could be earning as CAs 8-10 years down the track from now :/

I honestly have no clue but the Institute of Chartered Accountants says "How would you like to be earning $100,000 by the time you're 30?"

But I think that figure may be slightly on the conservative side? but I'm really not sure

Seremify & i wrote a thing on this a few pages back (though I admit im biased towards cadetships)

BUT one thing thats important to add is that in some mid tier firms, I think youre working full time for the whole 4 years of your degree for 5 days a week, as opposed to only 2 years in a big 4 (correct me if im wrong, but this is what I think one of my friends is doing)

In this regard id rather do BAcc internships and have less of a career advantage, than spend the rest of my life in a full time job.

Also there's nothing wrong with accepting BAcc and rejecting it later, in my opinion its different to signing a cadetships contract (although many people do sign and reject it later)
For the GT contract, I'm assigned to shared resources so that's just basically cycling around all 5 different sectors for 4-6 month periods for around 2-2.5 years, then after that duration, I'm suppose to discuss with my manager or partner which path I'd like to specialise in, so no I'm not restrained to working 4 years full time.
In fact, 1st year is full-time and then years 2 & 3 are part-time work, full-time study :) And they encourage you to go on an exchange or partake in international studies if you so wish :D

Does anyone know anything about BAcc reserves, they said I had a 50-75% chance of receiving an offer, but I'm tempted at this point to just send in my cadet contract, just to secure my position =/
