It largely depends on the subject and how well you do in your other subjects.

95% of the time yes.
people get 90 atars with low scaling subjects in their 80s..

but most of them have MX2 as well.

but generally, getting 85+ in all your subjects should do
unless you do
art, music, food tech, and all those.

so wait
are you saying if you get 85+ for all 10 units, you can get 90ish?
or are you saying if you get a couple of band 6's with the rest 85+ you can get over 90 atar?

also what if the subjects (for band 6's) are SOR 1 and modern history (maybe english adv too?)

The main thing is. no one knows FOR SURE, ahah, we can only "estimate" from past atars and marks.

But generally, getting 85 ish in all your subjects will get you around a 90 atar. (off course scaling matters)
If you get band 6 in those three, and 85+ for your others - you will be looking at around 92/3 atar.

Nothing guarantees a band 6, but getting band 6 in a couple of units, bar doing quite badly in your other units will scrape a 90 in most subject cases.

band 6 in phys, chem, mx1, mx2 and advance english and u will end up getting 99.95 atar :D
No, not necessarily. A flat 90 in all those subjects probably won't get you over 99.

I remember some one told me band 6 in everything gets 99. Such a BS. Some people get 96/95 in 1 or 2 subjects, and 90 in rest and don't get 99.

Well, it's not just a simple conversion from Band 6 -> ATAR. You're actual HSC and internal performances are considered in the calculations, and in respect to other subjects. But generally, even for the "best scaling" combination, B6 in all subjects probably won't get you 99.

In fact, there are people who've achieved B6 in all their subjects and got around mid-low 97's.

Thats pretty much why its impossible to give a definitive answer to the OPs question.

I only got one band 6 and I got 94.15. But I did MX2 so that helped me a lot.

You can get 90+ ATAR with only 1 B6 or even no B6's, but you need to do relatively well in your other subjects. You can't just get 1 B6 and 60s in your other subjects and expect a 90 ATAR. Those who achieved 90+ ATAR with 1 or no B6's would most likely have done medium to good scaling subjects and achieved around 83+ in those subjects.
