Q12 (d) was a past HSC question if memory serves me correctly. You guys had it easy.

Maths papers keep getting easier year on year.

Can someone explain, without snide comments or stupidly saying LOL,why the area didn't need to be multiplied by 12 to find the volume? I did it without multiplying by 12, then crossed it and did it again the other way. I'm literally kicking myself here. I was aiming for a raw mark around 90, and now the max mark I can get, counting all my horrendously stupid mistakes is around, if not lower, than 80%. My ATAR can just die now after those English exams and this maths one.

Anyone else remember getting these answers???? Q12dii) and Q12cii)

Q 12 d ii )

After finding the area via simposon's rule

The river flows at 0.4m per second. Calculate the approximate volume of water flowing through the cross section in 10 seconds.

My answer: 0.4 x 10 = 4m units cubed

Q 12 Cii)

Jay has 200 tiles. How many complete rows of the pattern can Jay make?

I had 13 rows.

Someone confirm these answers for the community please.

mate u use the 4 m in the V. So you do part i area which was around 32.8 metres iirc thus 4 * 32.8 giving 131.8 m cubed
Yep you got 12cii right :)

The river one was

Volume = Area v flow v duration
= 32.8 x 0.4 x 10
= 131.2

How did you do Q 12 c iii)

you could have written 3, 5, 7, 9... then use your calculator to figure out addition till 200 (Trial and Error)
but examiners wouldn't mark that probably get a 1 out of 2 for answer but not method of
working out required...

So what's the correct way to do this question

HOW did you guys do Q.13 a) iii) The co-ordinates of N

It was worth 3 marks (fahk man !!! I left if just at...)

N(liitle x) = (x+7/2), N(little y) = (y+4/2)
(if you guys get what I mean :uhoh:

v=b x h x d
a = b x h
therefore, you already had a, hence you need only to times by depth which was 0.4x10

answer was like 132.5 or something. if i havent made any mistakes

I understand that, but why is the depth 0.4? It says the river is 12m wide, so shouldn't the volume at any single moment of the cross section be the area found by the Simpsons rule x 12m. And then you times by 0.4 x 10? Sorry I can't can't seem to understand how and it's really bugging me that this was such a seemingly simple question for other people.

The Simpson's Rule is the area of the cross-section remember?

Hence, volume = area * length

Length = 0.4 * 10
