I'm pretty sure most faculties don't care much for the strike anymore, and most students will just find it annoying unless you're first year LOL, but then again maybe i'm not very into the politics of the system, but i just really don't see much people riding on the same boat as the union anymore, and please don't dump academic staff in there cause it's not :/

I'm not a USyd person, but like I can kind of see why people are fed up with the strikes to the point where they could care less. Like, many people just want to go to uni, get their stuff done and go home. Added to that, when people are paying thousands of dollars a semester, they dont want to be bogged down by all these interruptions. That's my two cents anyway, but then again maybe I have a different view of uni to most.

I think people have to realise that the majority of students only have a relationship with the University for the duration of the degree.

They couldn't give a stuff about anything long-term so they treat these movements with animosity. Students don't think they'll benefit from what the strikers are demanding so they couldn't care less.

Is that rights to resources for the union? If so, I'd definitely disagree with that.

Equality of access to 17% superannuation for all staff.
I'm quite neutral on this one because I'm not sure on how superannuation works and all that.
If it's under the contract you sign, I don't think there should be a need for change there.

New permanent positions for long-term casual and fixed-term academics. and Any new positions should only be fixed term in case a person “isn’t any good”.
As far as I know, casual workers would get 25% casual loading - this makes the only issue job security. Personally, I agree with the view of the management more than the NTEU view because I would expect a new academic to be doing a half-decent job assuming they are at least given the chance to adjust. The management's key word is "new" - to me, that's not a problem if it's just "new" academics.

Protection of personal (sick) leave entitlements. and The current personal (sick) leave entitlement is excessive compared to community standards and embarrassing for senior management outside the University.
Again, I am more inclined to agree with the view of the management on this one - even though it isn't being abused (apparently), doesn't mean that there shouldn't be change. Obviously, the management doesn't want academics abusing their rights to have lots of sick leave.

Also, there are 55 staff that have taken 50 days - how can you be sure that none of them were abusing it? Was each of the 55 staff individually investigated? What about the ~11% that took between 10 and 50 days?

With that said, I don't disagree with ALL of the clauses but I definitely don't agree with a lot of them.

They are asking for way to much. Of course the academic stuff is fine. But the sick days/pay is just to much.

Get a raise more than 3x inflation is huge. Inflation barely peaks on average above 2% anyway.
try doing some research before commenting, the requested wage increase was not p.a., it was over the space of several years..

so dey had 20 sick days a year n now da uni wants to cut dem down to normal sick days dat we all hav lyk 5-10

Ah okay. Because I know they were blocking the road at one point(because the best way to get people onside is to make it harder for them to get to work, and call everyone crossing the picket line going to uni a scab.)
