lol @ everyone saying trade sanctions will follow... Sanctions are mandated by the UN Security Counsel; Russia will just use it's veto power... if sanctions were invoked by NATO, Russia will just shut off the gas pipelines supplying the whole of Europe and they will freeze their arses off...

i find it amusing how eastern european people living in australia act like they're 'proud' of their 'european' heritage despite them being horrible countries to live in.

obviously never been Russia before...

it is no different to Australia... only differences are, there's a lot less Asians and trains are actually prompt (however, a lot of them look like something out of the soviet era)...

I have lived in Russia for over half of my life. It is VERY different to Australia, and inferior to it in many respects. Russia is stuck somewhere between Third world and First world (Second world then?) and if I had the choice of where I wanted to live, I'd pick Australia any day. Don't get me wrong, it might be nice tourist destination but the reality of daily life if much less glamourous.

Most people I've talked to seem to note how attractive Russian women are. You know why that is? Because the competition to marry (or at the very least have an affair with) a decent man is dowright brutual. Most men are drug addicts, alcoholics, have an abusive streak or all three. Getting with a guy that is somewhat respectful and earns a decent living is considered an achievement.

Obviously there are going to be men of the nature that I have described in EVERY country. However, in Russia its endemic because its embedded in our culture. Here, most decent people drink beer or other such light drinks when they're out on a barbecue (notice the guy in the picture is probably holding a beer). I have NEVER seen children here subjected to the sight of adults indulging in heavy alcoholic drinks to an excess. By contrast, my 3rd birthday (the first one I remember) was basically a zastolya (ie adults sitting around a table full of food) with one toast after another (usually vodka or whisky) for my good health, happy future, many good friends and other random stuff that were just an excuse to drink more. Cliches are rooted in truth and in Russia its basically: Someone is born-vodka-someone dies-vodka-someone's birthday-vodka-you get a promotion-vodka-you don't get a promotion-vodka-you find a girlfriend-vodka-you break up-vodka- etc etc etc.
Life expectancy for males in Australia:approx. 80 years
Life expectancy for males in Russia: 64 years

Medical care is one aspect in which Australia has the upper hand. No, its not perfect by any means but Russia is much worse. Not only do you have to wait (physically wait) in line for hours to see a doctor, most hospitals are still from the Soviet era and are old and filthy. My great aunty (God rest her soul) caught Hepatits from unsterilised medical instruments.

I don't know how you can compare the actions and responsibilities of trained military personnel with those of civilian protesters...

I certainly wouldn't want that pleb anywhere near the geographical location of parliament; let alone IN parliament... I would welcome the Russian army with open arms as well, if that was the case...
