Yes, this article is from Russia Today, so what... It puts forward a very interesting point about where Australia is heading...

http://rt.com/business/166140-australia-inequality-oxfam poll/

Cliffnotes:

- Oxfam did a survey in Australia;
- Found that there is rampart income inequality (nothing we did not already know);
- Found that 79% of people want world leaders to address the issue of rising income inequality;
- 79% also mentioned that the gap between the rich and poor has widened in the last decade;
- 64% consider themselves worse off than a decade ago;
- Also found that 75% of Australians think the rich should be taxed a shit load more.

Some age of entitlement...

GG Oxfam, about time someone talked about the elephant in the room...

Discuss, before anyone posts it... :lol:

funny you post something from Russia today when Russia is one of the must inequal countries in the world.

How's this, most of the poor don't pay any net taxes at all, you can basically argue the rich are supporting the rest of the population.

why are you worrying about the income gap when you should be talking about the pussy gap

20% of men are drowning in the pussy and 80% aren't far from calling it a day and becoming homo this is a very alarming issue

unequal...

The survey was actually done by Oxfam, RT just reported on it... didn't see it on any other "mainstream" news outlet...

Man fuck this country, I'm moving to Dubai.

Why do I have to go through 5+ years of uni and balance 15 years of working hard as fuck to get into my ideal lifestyle just to have some poor cunts who didn't want to do the same demand I get taxed even more when the flagfall rate of tax I'll have to pay is already more than triple the amount than that of the income bracket most of these "poor" people fit into.

Don't think you get what they are actually intending to say...

truth of the matter is, even after all that toil you mentioned... you will still be in the poor house (I'm talking a beggar on the street poor) when comparing yourself to many of the highest income earners in Australia... That's not to say that I think being successful is a crime, however, I think that those who can pay tax, should pay tax... those who have the opportunity to give to the community, should give to the community; etc...

Now, for all that toil and hard work you claim to be doing, do you think you will be fairly compensated for your troubles... or are you simply working for an individual that is riding on your success while literally robbing you blind...

(as you can tell, I'm not a free market fanatic... the free market did not give us the 8 hour working day, minimum wage, the old age pension, OHS rights, etc... don't think the free market is good at sorting out anything... then again, politics isn't all that good either... I'm more of an anarchist with good intentions :lol:)

As far as I can tell, it's saying that 76% of people think the rich don't pay enough tax when their tax flagfall rate is already more than three times as much as the total amount of tax these 76% pay and even though the rich pay more than 133% out of the dollar that they pay which is almost half of that dollar in itself. By these rates alone, it's reasonable to infer that the rich would pay the large majority of total taxation revenue and so to say that they don't pay their fair share of taxes is ridiculous.

Comparatively maybe but on an individual level you'll still be very well off provided you made the right educated choices. And I agree with you here but only on a moral level. It shouldn't be an obligation of people with money to have to do anything for the community. They earned their money and so should choose how to spend it. Helping the poor should be an obligation only to the Government. Of course it'd be nice if individuals got involved but that would be their choice to do so.

And I don't understand what you're getting at with your last comment. Well compensated in terms of payment only? Yes and no in that regard for many reasons. But as far as I'm concerned, the only thing that really affecting my well compensation is how much money I have to pay in taxes that is actually taking out of my pay packet.

that doesn't matter though. if someone's richer than you, how does that affect your living standards? you're just being jealous here, now.

that's not to say that I think being successful is a crime, however, I think that those who can pay tax, should pay tax...

they already pay all of the tax, dummy

the free market did not give us the 8 hour working day, minimum wage
If a 8-hour working week and minimum wage comparable to today's had been introduced at the beginning of the industrial revolution, everyone would have starved to death or have lived in abject poverty because they either wouldn't be working enough to sustain a remotely decent lifestyle or they wouldn't have a job because their employers would have gone bankrupt

it was the free market which lead to capital investment that enabled workers to be productive enough to even make 8-hour days and minimum wages an economic possibility

don't think the free market is good at sorting out anything...
yes the wealth of more pro-market countries is just, like, cultural or something

People that are rich, built their way up and worked hard.

Why should they get taxed the fuck out of 50% or however much , just because "poor" people are complaining.

If they want to do something about it, then go work hard too or change professions.

I would also like to add that if taxes get too high ... It would discourage investments and business.

The circumstances you are born into are highly predictive of future success and attainment. We are unequal at birth. It's delusional to dismiss this as a huge factor in success - lots of successful people will tell you this, it's why so many billionaires are committed to philanthropy, because they recognise and are grateful for the unequal opportunity afforded to them, and recognise that potential exists in many less fortunate people.

Without universal affordable quality health and education, this inequality would be entrenched to a much greater extent. The social goods provided by taxing the rich allow the opportunity of a better life to people who would otherwise be denied, not through laziness or any character flaw, but simply from the unfortunate circumstances of their birth.

I would also like to add that if taxes get too high ... It would discourage investments and business.
Tax rates in Australia are much lower than 20 years ago, or earlier. The top tax rate used to be a lot more than 50%.

Wrong. While true for some, many did not "build their way up". For example, Gina Rinehart inherited the Hancock Prospecting company and built it up from there but that certainly doesn't mean she was self-made. Money makes money.

Worked hard is completely bullshit - there is only so much you can work and to say that she worked harder than our doctors or construction workers is simply crap.

I don't really know her story, but it's not physical or mental work that makes someone rich. It's not the hours clocked in or sore muscles you get. That's what these people surveyed don't understand. Just because they work hard physically and mentally (let's assume they do) that does not entitle them to anything. Just because someone isn't good with money it doesn't mean they have the right to be angry at those who are.
