UOW employment for law grads vs ANU (1 Viewer)

According to the UOW website, it says that their students have a high employment rate. How true is this actually?
Would you rather go to ANU law or UOW law lol

Uow law, my sister's friend is becoming a lawyer and she already has a position at a law firm once she graduates, uow looks after graduates preety well.

For graduate employment, some law firms do look at it. But that is mainly because the partners have most of the say and they often have a strong "old boy" mentality. For most other fields, HR plays a greater role in employment and they usually see past prestige (mainly because it doesnt really say much about a graduate). After you have been employed for a few years, the uni wont matter at all.

Except you aren't a lawyer when you finish a law degree.

I'd suggest ANU simply because you'll find more opportunities for paralegal work in Canberra, and have a greater shot at finding graduate employment without having to move again. Unless their employment stats tell you where their students are working, disregard them, they could be all working at Maccas for you all you know.

Work in a large company in Sydney supporting their legal counsel, every lawyer (including their paralegals) is from either UNSW or USYD despite there being like 10 other law schools in NSW as well. But it doesn't matter which law school you go to (according to the egalitarians on the internet at least). Prestige matters more than ever with a record glut in graduates in law, willfully close your eyes at the major problem if you wish. Just don't start wondering what the hell happened until after you graduate.

lol this is simply false. You can't compare law to medicine. When you graduate from medschool, you have guaranteed internship hence why your university doesn't matter. It isn't the same case with law however.

This is a major assumption, and not true in many cases. But to answer the OP, really depends on factors such as how close each uni is to you, and what sort of experience your looking to obtain from your degree, as ANU has an emphasis on research international law and government type stuff. So really look at those factors.

And in respect to your comment, not denying that there is a glut of graduates in law at the moment, however there are a number of other things not associated with what university a student attended as to why graduates cannot obtain work.

That data can easily be attributed to the fact that the cohorts of UNSW and USyd are probably stronger than those from other unis. Also, what "work" do these people find? Is it work as a lawyer, or just general work?
