Basically everyone's reaction when they hear that I'm going to do law is "wtf are you crazy, you're setting yourself up for a major breakdown"

And I get that it probably isn't as bad as most people think but how bad is it really?

Law is fine, its just so many people do it so you have to be a top candidate to get a good job.

I'm going to assume it's like everything else in life. You're learning new skills, content and there'll be a lot of it - so yeah, might be a bit tough but we'll through it man.

We're all melodramatic fools anyway!

Personally, I found Law quite difficult, it was definitely harder than Commerce.

The problem with Law is people enter it without really understanding it as a career. People put Law on a pedestal with Medicine in terms of money and job prospects. Given how easy it is to get into these days, people go into it thinking it will be an easy path to a prestige career. However, Law isnt what it was 20 or 30 years ago. Only the cream of the crop really make it into the high flying, high paying roles. If you are really into Law and want to make a career out of it, then go for it. But if your reasons are superficial, you are going to be disappointed.

I have no real reason of studying law other than a distant dream of going into corporate/insolvency litigation. I'd love to practice with a real understanding from an accounting perspective and in the legal context - I've experienced quite a few lawyers/solicitors who are bloody useless and I'd love to differentiate myself in that respect.

I don't know the likelihood of this is but anywho [emoji14]

As usual, on point and i definitely agree.

But i think law is still law. It was prestigious and high paying etc because it was super hard to get into i.e. high barriers to entry, much like medicine.
Because there are so many law schools now, it is generally the tier one law schools and their highest achieving students that make it into top tier law or become some high flying barrister. The money is still there and if you are good at what you do, you can make waay more than a surgeon for similar hours (By the time they fully specialise you'll be in a good position).

It is a very challenging and interesting field i recon, just reallly hard to crack.

But i definitely agree, given it is a generalist degree now days (or at least that's how unis sell it now), it doesn't really distinguish you much as a candidate.

To begin with it is definitely hard... However, you settle in, figure out the tricks of the trade, find a good group of people you can compare answers with (not plagiarise with, that's a big no no), use that group of people to compare notes with also, get drunk and all with that group...

You actually meet some cool people, you also meet a lot of the FIGJAM types as well (Fuck I'm good, just ask me)...

There are jobs out there there were people run into fires for a living and getting paid to get shot at. Whenever someone tells me law is hard and so stressful, i just think to myself, welp its better than being shot at in a-stan or running into a burning building. Sometimes you just gotta stop being a pussy.

There are a shit load of melodramatic pricks that do law... They are actually the most annoying ones out of all of them... (Yes, they are even more annoying then those mature aged students who sit at the front of lectures and ask pointless questions...)

Nothing is worse than those mature aged students. Just stfu and let the lecture go on rather and going on "but in that case *that is not required reading or even in unit of study*" or "in your comment in that case/paper" shuttt the fuckkk upppp. Sometimes they ask very good questions though so overall I don't mind.

But yeah, law at a top-tier uni is definitely not easy. Unless someone's on a HD average, law isn't "easy" for them.

No don't worry, it's not a death sentence but a law degree from Macq is fully unemployable. Need to do law at USYD/UNSW for undergrad.

I hate all the fuckers who post about how hard law is on facebook, twitter etc, it really isn't as hard as people make it out to be, but law students (like me) are up themselves and want to make out to the plebeians how 'hard' law is.

I only did law subjects last year, and had no trouble completing the work and getting marks good enough to get into usyd.

Tbh you should be fine with Law. You also are passionate for insolvency so the contingency is there. I think for your case, doing a dual program will be beneficial if you want to accelerate your career down the track. Reason why I've gone with a masters myself.

It's great to be realistically ambitious and if the passion is there, go for it

i stated that because i haven't done law at every uni so iwouldn't know. Rather not speculate, never did a law degree at uws. But from friends, i do know where it is easier to get higher marks in.

Also dupain, stfu mate. I know people from mq at freehills. So casey, do not worry at all. With your work experience you will literally get hired anywhere potentially.
