Study tips for chem and phys? Especially tackling the more niche questions which require conceptual thinking

Also how good do you have to be at maths to get 94+ in 4u?

How much content did you cover / complete during the December / January holidays prior to entering the new year?

For maths study, do you do textbook exercises or just straight up grind past papers? What were your methods for preventing silly mistakes?
I always started with textbook exercises. I would only do past papers in preparation for exams. I prevented silly mistakes basically with repetition but I think doing your practice exams under timed conditions really helps - especially doing practice exams in LESS time than normal (i.e 2 hours for adv maths instead of 3)

Study tips for chem phys would be to work together - helped me so much for phys to iron out misconceptions
Science ready is a god send
I think more niche questions you just need to think about the question before you write your response and try and digest all the information
Also assuming that all the information is there for a reason (not a mistake by the examiner for instance)

To get 94+ in 4u is normally about an 80 raw which means that you can get it by doing all the 'easy' questions
I think most people could achieve it with enough time and effort, it's fairly accessible

After textbook exercises and between periods of exams, what would you do for maths?

how in the world can you improve in english going from a high b to a high a?
Maybe this isn't great advice but for essays I always memorised a pre prepared response
You can make a pre prepared response flexible by preparing more than you need.
Also try and expand vocabulary

As soon as I felt I knew the content well enough I would start with my school's past papers
Then I would try and find hard questions on the topics that were being tested from other past papers that I hadn't seen before.

Shorts I struggled for a while but best advice is that you're showing the marker you understand the text. I got 20/20 shorts in HSC with this approach - focusing less on the techniques and more on showing I understand what's actually happening in the text, especially for poetry

how many hours a day in year 11 vs 12 did you spend after school studying, during exam season vs not during exams

I didn't do that much more in year 12 than in year 11
3-4 hours in both years after school every day
During exam season sometimes I'd be working super late if I felt I was behind - 6+ hours (but rarely)
When not in exam season I would still aim for 3-4 hours but if I got 2 hours of work done it was good enough
