Remember to know what the VERBS are asking you do to, i.e Compare - Show how things are similar or different.

i was just looking at last years exams and noticed a trend...the alot of the questions ask you to develop an answer with your personal experience. i.e. micro world. how would i do that! i really dont understand how i could go in there and talk about my own lets say 'belief system'...i guess ill always choose the other question then

Equality and Difference (20 marks)

a) Evaluate commonality and difference experienced by people. In your answer refer to prejudice, change and discrimination.

b) Analyse the possible futures of ONE society if existing inequalities are maintained. In your answer make reference to research methodologies utilised in your focus study of that society.

Work and Leisure (20 marks)

a) Evaluate the effect of social class on work and leisure aspirations and opportunities. In your answer refer to the concepts of technology and alienation.

Ummm

A question survivor 39 (for your work and leisure question) - What the hell do technology and alienation have to do with class based aspiration of work and leisure? these seem totally disparate concepts which are not at all linked in any of textbooks I've read, and if I got this question in the HSC i'd be totally screwed. so how do you answer this question?

Hi Mustafa Mond, I didn't actually complete this depth study in the HSC. But I have checked the definition of social class, which consistute a sense of division, mostly based on economic status, or socioeconomic status. And it is clearly related to technology, as people in higher social class have more access to technological advances compare to people with lower social class. Alienation is the result of this division of class, as different people with different level of wealth have more or less access to resources, such as technology. Therefore, the concepts alienation and technology is clearly linked in your depth study of work and leisure.

just like to say i appreciate what your doing for everyonce (including me) i feel like im in a state of apathy when it comes to this exam, it's my favourite subject, and that's why i'm least worried about it. I feel my state of mind will come back and bite me on the ass when exam time comes. I studied BARBIE for popular culture and i've forgotten nearly everything about it lol....oh well

'ethnographic' study was the methodology in my trials and i got full marks for that, if that happens to appear in the HSC i will be cheerin' YAY

Survivor - I'm confused as to how to answer the question-

"Describe how you experience continuity and change in your macro world"

Since this is my macro world, it's the world that I know of but is oside my personal experience adn knowledge, right? So in this question would i focus on how I have "experienced" macro world change, like through the internet, media etc? or should I be looking at this from another angle?

how do we talk about a change in their micro world, their personal experience, when all we know of them is through public knowledge sort of thing? like we dont really know about change in their personal lives but in general to the whole country, therefore macro world?

try to focus on their family life of the people from your slected country. For example, in vietnam, Extended families are still dominant, but a shift towars a nuclear family is evident, due to influence of western thoughts, and ideas...etc.

What happens if thats not the area I studied? Surely they will give us the option cause they only asked us to study ONE (they even wrote it in capitals). Im freaking out!

just wondering - can we actually be assessed on social and cultural litetracy? my book says no, it's just like what your supposed to achieve by doing the course, but I haven't actually looked at the sylabus to check this. Anyone got an opinion on this issue

About social literacy... you def need to know how to define it and some of the key outcomes. Past tests have often asked you to write entire 6 mark questions on it. Does anyone know what answer they are looking for when they ask 'how can social literacy be achieved through a synthesis of the micro and macro world'? It just says you need to do that in the syllubus but not why!!

the question shouldn't be specifically asking you to talk about beliefs, values and lifestyle (or whatever you're doing)..what i've seen..and what they should be doing..is that it will ask you for an area/issue/whatever you wanna call it that shows continuity and change in your selected country..because that's what it comes under in the syllabus..i can't find the actual question unfortunately, but that's what the question was in my trial..

so yeh..the question shouldn't specify..there's seven options (i think)..you're not expected to learn all..only one..
