You don't know this. i'm a low rep user, I don't get negged very often. Once you build your credibility, you don't get negged as much. This is not an issue of whether a person of high/low rep gets negged or not, it's an issue of the effectiveness of rep in it's entirety.

But the thing is, these circle jerkers don't really contribute to the school side of the forum. Their reputation has little impact on the overall effectiveness of rep as a means of determining credibility in the school section.

One or two people negging you for no reason does not make the system illegitimate. It would have very little impact on your overall reputation. The reputation system is in place to show appreciation towards someone's contribution, and also to show whether a person is credible. What happens...
