Fail what? A course? Then you have to come back for an extra semester or overload in one to re-do it. Fail too many subjects and you won't be able to go into uni at all for a year or so.

Transfers are transfers. You need a high average mark to get in and you also have to compete for limited spots.

I'd say take the double degree because the workload is still only 4 subjects per semester, regardless of what degree you do.
