Yes, you do need to be top 0.2% of the state but the problem solving required in Westpac is way easier than UNSW (30 questions in 75 mins as opposed to 6 questions in 3 hours...)

A locus question always gives you the x- & y- parametric coordinates and another equation with the parameter.
If it's not like that, then the parameter is easily eliminated, or it's just that you havent picked up on the equation involving the parameter OR theres another algebraic trick involved...

when it's the square root of x squared, you only take the positive sol'n (since a square root must be positive) but if you have x squared = 1 to start off with, you take both the positive and the negative answer
