I reckon I got about 60-70% right when I did it last year, and I finished with an 85. In fact, that whole question on several variable stuff I didn't even attempt, because I had no hope of getting it right. Same with the polar coordinates question.
I try to avoid having a large number of classes one after the other. I can do it sure, but if I'm half asleep by the end of the day I won't learn jack shit and may as well not even be there.
Well, if you have 70 at the end of sem 1, you would need to average 88 in the remaining 5 semesters to finish the degree with an 85 wam. That's certainly possible, but it would be a pretty big turnaround. Don't forget actuarial subjects (as in exemption subjects, not that piece of piss actl1001)...
Something you need to be aware of is that housing is extremely expensive in this part of Sydney. Most students either live at home (in the suburbs) and spend hours commuting each day, or they live in sharehouses which are overcrowded and still almost unaffordable. You're probably going to pay at...
This one. Many times they can't be bothered creating a different test for each day, or maybe it's different but with very similar questions. So of course a lot of people cheat and half of those who do probably still fail so no one really seems to care.
Yeah I did this too. I think I lost like one mark or something for not having it attached to my report. Depends how much of a dick your tutor is though.
Hmmm they must have changed it around this semester. It said it's partly short answer in the course outline, and there's like 15% tutorial participation or something like that plus 5% attendance. As soon as I saw that I dropped it. Fuck losing 15 marks because some aspie has to sit in the front...
I don't think you should do it unless you're already really keen on becoming an actuary. You'd have to be pretty far along the spectrum to take an ACTL course and think "wow, I never realised life insurance was this interesting."
For stats in 1151 you get this chapter of the course notes which is very good. If you just borrowed the 1151 notes from somebody and read chapter 5 over the mid year break you would be fine I think.
Don't do it, it's boring as fuck. ACTL2001 has already driven me to alcoholism and it's only week 4, I can only imagine what's going to happen if I try to finish this degree. Fortunately, school of maths offers an escape route.
