Decided not to get a Dell. Instead got a HP Pavilion dv5 and saved $250 in the progress (cheers Bing Lee). It's an awesome notebook too.

Well at this point I'm leaning towards Dell. I also found the EPP program: http://dell.communicates.to/epp/au/ Anybody else used it? 8% off is pretty good...any saving is a great saving imo. Does anybody know where I can find a list of eligible institutions as well as the appropriate EPP...

Thanks for the feedback...looks like either XP or Vista will do me fine. Another point I forgot to raise is tech support...anybody had any problems with any particular manufacturer? Or any that you guys recommend? With regards to MS Office, should I stick to 2003 or grab 2007?

I need help choosing a new laptop, I figured it'd be better if I just added to this thread than start a new one. Basically, I'll be travelling a fair bit over the next 12-18 months and I need something that'll be reliable. Probably won't be doing a lot of gaming on it, but def. needs to run...
