Hi yonezwxu, I was originally meant to take EAL/D because I had been in Australia for less than 2 years when I started year 11 and thus my English wasn't the best at the time. However, I ended up having to take English Standard because EAL/D clashed with one of my other subjects.

To answer your question, English Standard was not bad. I was able to achieve a low band 5 as my HSC mark, despite my circumstances at the time, not to mention the fact that we (HSC class of 2019) sat the first HSC exam of the current syllabus, meaning we had limited resources to use in our preparations compared to later HSC cohorts.
