i think it could be both but youll probably need to read up on it on the offical document or something but youre supposed to get several? warnings instead of an immediate award

Is this a year 12 subject? If so, the subject wouldn't even be on the record if it was dropped before being completed. The year 11 course would be however, although there would be no issues there if no N award was issued in year 11.
