Examine the traditional fairy tale of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and the way that it has been adapted and appropriated in other contexts and media. Analyse how the adaptations and appropriations reflect different ways of responding to the source text. In your response, you should refer to Angela Carter’s stories ‘The Courtship of Mr Lyon’ and ‘The Tiger’s Bride’, and at least TWO other texts that are based on or derive from the fairy tale. Describe the relationships between each text and its culture, and how language is used to shape the values and concerns of the text.
