    The integration of e^(-x^2)

I guess someone had to discover my little secret some day.
  2. Carrotsticks

    The integration of e^(-x^2)

Perhaps because I have set my browsing to private, so I do not appear in the list of users who are browsing the thread.

    The integration of e^(-x^2)

Pretty much this. I had to modify it slightly though to acquire neater bounds. The conversion to a polar system naturally results in a upper/lower circular bound, which was rather messy to work with (algebraically, it was quite terrible). So instead of bounding a circular domain by two...

    The integration of e^(-x^2)

It is pretty much the same R as what you are familiar with when you use Rcis(theta). We are converting from a cartesian coordinate system to a polar coordinate system.
  5. Carrotsticks

    The integration of e^(-x^2)

Of course you can. Find any improper integral within some finite domain that evaluates to some relatively simple expression involving pi, where it can be 'made the subject' later. Now integrate the Taylor expansion for the first however many terms you like (depending on the degree of accuracy...
  6. Carrotsticks

    The integration of e^(-x^2)

Yes you did. It is not a closed form as what most people expect, but it is an integral.

    Official BOS Trial 2015 Thread

Sure, some can get above 70. But it's like a 17 year old competing in the 13 year old race, winning, then being awarded first place. So no.

Is the new fitzpatrick book enough?

    Most certainly yes.
  9. Carrotsticks

Is the new fitzpatrick book enough?

The new Fitzpatrick book is sufficient for the entire Extension two course.

1998 HSC AM-GM inequality induction proof

I used the inequality from the previous part.

    100% in 4u maths?

Indeed a brilliant mathematician. Here is his CV. http://www.maths.usyd.edu.au/u/anthonyh/cv.pdf
  12. Carrotsticks

1998 HSC AM-GM inequality induction proof

It's a nice application of Young's Inequality to prove out AM/GM.
  13. Carrotsticks

    100% in 4u maths?

Anthony Henderson, who now teaches at the University of Sydney, scored 100% raw in the 4U Maths in 1993.
  14. Carrotsticks

    100% in 4u maths?

State ranking students will typically score ~95%+ raw.

    dummy variables

You are understandably confused. I've had many discussions, some getting quite heated actually, with many teachers over this exact same concept and I still hold to this. The problem comes from the way functions are taught. They are explained as 'functions of a variable', which is a hugely...

    100% in 4u maths?

That would be true, if all of the applicants were people who happen to be roaming around the forums. However, how it generally works is that I link it to a student, they send it to their friends who go to 'top schools', then it snowballs and spreads from there. For example, I have at least...
  17. Carrotsticks

    100% in 4u maths?

That's what people have been saying for the past three years. They are still saying it, but never quite have gotten round to doing it.
  18. Carrotsticks

    Orthogonal Vectors

That is exactly right. What you are essentially doing is constructing a 'new xyz plane'. However, this new xyz plane needs units of course, much like how you have ijk. You have your x, y and z 'axes' (the two given vector, and the vector you acquired upon taking the cross product), you...

    Official BOS Trial 2015 Thread

Just did the counts. 2U - 20 3U - 78 4U - 64 I would love to accept more for 3U and 4U, and I am fairly confident that we could get the numbers above 100 each quite easily, but unfortunately due to the limitations in the number of markers we have, we are going to have to cap it off here...

    Official BOS Trial 2015 Thread

Thank you all so much for joining! I am going to have to halt registrations from now on, temporarily, whilst I confirm the student counts. I currently do not know how many have joined because within the span of 45 minutes, about 30+ people have registered.
