meaning top ranks = top HSC marks? so if someone does extremely well in external and has shit ranks, he is limited frmo a band 6 (TECHINCALLY)

but disregard the marks can you still achieve one of the higher *ATARS*? or is it the same ATARS and ranks are synonymous?? i.e shit rank = shit ATAR

well, a student from last year had reasonably shit ranks in school and performed pretty badly throughout the year receiving 40's 50's and 60's for half yearlies and trials. Then he smashed the HSC and received high 80's and low 90's in his exams and received an ATAR of 87.5 so this is why i was...

yeah but wont for example 9th rank get a higher mark and beat me in the end cause his rank is better?
