    HSC Biology Marathon 2015

Salt and water regulation is maintained with the help of hormones such as aldosterone and anti-diuretic hormones. When water levels in the blood/body is low, osmoreceptors detect this and sends this signal to the brain. The brain recognises the effective method of counteracting this change...

To HSCers who did both Biology and Physics: Which one did you prefer?

Honestly just do what you would be interested in. This results in more studying and hence greater results. The scaling in this case will therefore not matter anyway.

    HSC Biology Marathon 2015

Models are widely used to simplify complex biological concepts. Instead of interpreting strings of information about biological concepts, a models pairs this information with a visual aspect. Because it makes use of our sense of sight, it allows for better interpretation. While models can be too...

General thoughts: English Advanced Modules Paper 2

Just by not having a conclusion excludes you from getting full marks. It depends on how big your writing is though. I only wrote 4 pages each, but my handwriting is small, I guess.

    HSC Biology Marathon 2015

Water is essential in human survival as it is not only used to transport nutrients around the body, but also used for body regulation. When there is too little water in a cell, it shrivels. When there is too much water in a cell, it may explode. Both results in killing cells. It is therefore...

    HSC Biology Marathon 2015

Q1. Two processes contribute to genetic diversity in populations. One of which is crossing-over of the genes between homologous pairs in the Prophase I stage, increasing the randomness of the results of the final four daughter cells. Another is random segregation where any chromatid can end up...

    HSC Biology Marathon 2015

In humans, we can detect frequencies that range from 0.02 kHz to 20kHz. A dolphin, however, can detect frequencies from 1kHz to 100kHz. This may be because humans produce sound within these limits for efficient communication. Additionally, high frequency sound waves are not able to travel very...

I don't know whether anyone has thought of this...

That was what I was thinking - both can be true. And yes, that was what I was trying to get through. The periods of stasis are shorter today because of humans. When humans weren't present, there was a much longer stasis period because of the insignificant changes in the environment, which is...

To HSCers who did both Biology and Physics: Which one did you prefer?

I don't regret it at all although I admit that it has much more content. It's an extremely fun subject for me, and very interesting as it is about your own body most of the time.
