Investment banking, also just for reference i'm doing straight comm and have no daddy connections haha!

    Investment Banking

Few points: - MC also offers a variety of exit opportunities, there is usually a lot of overlap between consulting/IB exit-opps (corp dev/strat, pe etc.) but there are also opportunities where one or the other might be preferred, for example very unlikely you could get a gig in an infra fund...

    Investment Banking

All the questions above have been covered in previous topics so it might be worth searching around rather than discussing again. While both attract similar calibre of people they're still different roles and arguably set you up for different opportunities in the future - it all comes down to...

    Investment Banking

For me the biggest attraction to IB is basically the breadth of future opportunities that the experience could lead to. That's not to say I think someone should aim for IB if they know they'll hate it but it's always nice to know that the skills you're developing are marketable to the broader...

    Accounting / Professional Services

That's a tough one. If I wanted to lateral into IB or Corp Dev somewhere then I think TS is the only logical choice as the skill set you develop in insto isn't as transferable. If I was looking at starting a solid career with great career progression with plenty of diversity in its own right I'd...

    Accounting / Professional Services

Short answer is it depends. I've spent some time in a large corporate and the Corp Dev team there was made up of plenty of people with TS backgrounds, so I imagine they would be doing anything from origination through to execution. In PE it may be a little different because you'll be competing...

    Accounting / Professional Services

Not too sure on exit opportunities from real estate advisory although I know they are much more limited. Once in real estate it seems that you're always in real estate (which is not a bad thing if its what you like). Another factor that I imagine would come into play is your...

    Accounting / Professional Services

I'll take a shot at this. Even though I don't work in this area specifically I know a fair bit about it and people who do. Firstly, to clarify, when you say Transaction Services are you talking about the area as a whole or specifically transaction services? For example, EY calls their...

HELP! Majors for Bachelor of Commerce at UNSW?

This is the best advice you're going to get. There are a heap of commerce graduates but there are also a heap of engineering and law graduates so this is becoming less and less of a 'competitive advantage'. The appeal of commerce is that in 3 years you can basically be done and working full-time...

    Simple ^

    This is exactly the reason!

    Investment Banking

I know plenty of people in IB who have done straight commerce (no honours) but this is in Melbourne where you aren't competing with com/law com/eng etc. as much (or even at all really).

Agree with this. D WAM needs to be high as well i.e. MINIMUM 75+

    Investment Banking

No university really offers an 'investment banking' course. A bachelor of commerce with majors in accounting/finance or finance/economics is a good place to start. It's also worth looking at the connections of the universities themselves (i.e. at which ones do banks primarily recruit from)...
