At my school every person in yr 11 has to do atleast 13 units and some kids do 14 so its not likes its never been done. I'm doing 13 and i'm fine with it and if you feel like dropping a sub drop it also i think you have to do 12 units for prelim so the only sub you could drop is ext 1 maths
