    Might have failed contracts exam...

It's all about how you spin it, and what you do next. If you take responsibility (like you seem to be), and say 'I screwed up' but are able to show you learnt from it and go back to getting good marks, then I really don't think it will be fatal. If you did fail (you might not have!) just take...

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

Out of curiosity, what is the pay this year? Last year all the big 6/big mid tiers were pretty close (my offers ranged from 900 to 970 a week). Not sure how it translates to grad salaries though- only know for sure what my firm pays, but I think they're probably relatively close, with G+T paying...

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

There's only one intake of clerks in Sydney, and that's the summer clerks. So even if some of the percentages might sound right, the absolute number of summer clerks can't possibly be just for Sydney. I can only speak for last year, but I know for a fact there was 100% offers at Blakes and...

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

For one, Allens etc do not hire ~200 summer clerks each year in Sydney. And anecdotal evidence suggests offer rates among Sydney summer clerks at the big firms was pretty close to 100%, whereas in Melbourne it is the norm to complete 3ish vacation clerkships so graduate offer rates are much lower.

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

I'm guessing this must be including Melbourne clerks (where the clerkships work differently) coz no way is that right if it's just Sydney clerks.

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

That happens every year. They have a formula. Actually, the one round of offers works in the applicants' favour. If you're a good candidate and you've shown some interest in the firm, they'll make you an offer. They'll take into account how likely you are to accept when determining how...

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

He interviewed me in the second round when I was going through, and he was probably one of my favourite interviewers. He's a nice guy, was good fun at the cocktail parties too. Asked a few probing but good questions I think, seemed to like direct, honest, articulate answers. From memory Corrs...

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

    1. Numbers I think most of the top tiers aim for 30-40. There's always one firm that is 'fashionable' every year and ends up with mammoth 60ish classes (because the firms have to take a bit of a gamble and make more offers than they really want since lots of people get multiple offers) - last...

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

Blakes also offers a pro bono rotation I think. Bakers is definitely unparalleled with their international opportunities, but it's worth noting that not all the clerks get to do international clerkships- I believe it was 5 for this year, obviously could change.

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

    1. As the above poster said, all the firms have different cut-offs. Distinction/high credit sounds about right for the big firms. 2. The four firms that made me offers (all big 6/ big mid tier) were offering salaries between $900 and $970 a week (incl super from memory). The smaller mid...
