t=1/3 x/2=18.43 x=36.86 yeh i realieze my mistake now i think. can someone tell me why (180+36.86) isnt an answer?

yeh soz, when i write tanx/2 i mean the tan theta over two things. it is tan(x/2) does that help or am i still misunderstood?

really? well my teacher says so and the answers are right

for example: 3sinx+4cosx=5 using the t method u get: t=1/3 tanx/2=18.43 tanx=36.86 why is there only one answer and not two?normally you would have tan positive in 3rd quadrant aswell so another answer would be (180+x) but this is not the case when using t method.

can someone explain to me why, when equation has been simplified to a quadratic there is only one answer for theta, while normally there are two.
