The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

Yeah...people are stupid for fearing something that could kill them. Hmm. Innate desire to keep on living...ring a bell?

    Sexism against guys...

I think the problem lies with our perception of men, partly...the idea that they shouldn't be weak, shouldn't need to seek help etc. Our ideas about men, imo, are just as important as our ideas about women, which is why I think we should be just as aware of them (therefore, the whole point of my...

    Sexism against guys...

May I just point out the irony of this statement in light of your views on homosexuals?

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

Disagreed. As murphyad said before, a gun is specifically designed for the purpose of harming or killing...even in self-defence. However, the main purpose of a car is not to do either of those things. Of course, it can be *used* for those purposes, just as a gun could be *used*...

    Sexism against guys...

    Lol. Totally agreed with this.

    Sexism against guys...

That's essentially what I meant...I was being too absolutist before... I resent the idea that a man should *never* hit a woman because what if they do need to defend themselves but they just stand there and take it because of how they've been brought up? How is that fair?

Mums get custody in 60pc of cases despite new laws - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

    Sexism against guys...

True...in principle...but if you think about it, there are still so many kids who spend the majority of time with their mum.

    Animal Experimentation

Well...I've never posted in a thread talking about this before so... I don't know. Yes and no for me. I mean...what else can we do? Obviously...human experimentation is out of the question...so it seems to be the lesser of two evils.

    Sexism against guys...

Exactly. That's why my question was 'Has it been taken to an extreme?'

    Anarcho-capitalists, I'm calling you out....

Yes...ok. Didn't make it clear what I actually meant. Sure, there are still standards. But...you've hit the nail on the head with the notion of competition...there would be no laws to regulate the extent to which the competing companies could exploit the consumers...and you'd get different...

    Sexism against guys...

I was watching Q&A the other day, and Germaine Greer was going on about the oppressive nature of marriage etc. And it got me thinking...everyone mostly talks about sexism in relation to women...but what about guys? What do people think about society's perception of males etc? Has feminism been...

    Genetic disease screening

I'm for it in principle...but am also wary of the possible implications. Anyone seen GATTACA? So I guess what I'm saying is that it should be only for an individual (or their child) and not made public or compulsory.

    Ncap

I agree that there should be a Religion and Philosophy forum. And L&OB is irritating...I actually agree with Iron for once.

Catholic Church and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

AIDS denial is costing many, many lives in the countries where it's most rampant...and Catholic groups are not the only groups responsible.

    The 'perfect' soldier?

Given Australia's current military involvement and the existence of previous threads such as 'Is war ever justified?', I thought I'd pose a question to you guys sparked by an article in New Scientist. It was talking about the US' investment in technology which would basically make better...
