Ext Subjects Outside of School Hrs - MAX hrs to be at school

I did Extension English 1 and 2, as well as Extension History. While starting school at 7:30am on four days out of five seemed nightmarish at first, I quickly got used to it. It's not that bad, really, your sleeping patterns change and it stops becoming a chore after a month or two.

My school has dropped fifty places since 2006 - I'm so proud.

Am I the only person in the state who did the Cambodia question for Indochina?

Dear Board of Studies: what the hell? I spent so much time on the Americans in 'Nam and you don't even ask a question about it. For shame. Oh well, at least I'd studied Kampuchea, too, so I could write a response for that.

    Year 12 Farewell Song

We used "The End" by the Doors. I think the song's hauntingly downbeat quality worked quite well. Bittersweet, definitely.

What was the last CD you bought?

The Cars - "Heartbeat City" (1984). Scored it for $5 at the local market today.

Current Song I've Played to Death

The Police - "Can't Stand Losing You". Between obsessively watching their performance of it on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1978 and repeatedly listening to the album version, the song has lost something for me.

Current Song I've Played to Death

Japan - "Ghosts". Haunting stuff, but I've listened to it so often in these few weeks past that it's starting to lose its impact on me.

What album(s) did you listen to today?

This Mortal Coil - It'll End in Tears (1984). Elizabeth Fraser's vocals on the cover of Tim Buckleys "Song to the Siren" are simply sublime. But then again, just about everything the woman touches is.

What was the last CD you bought?

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire (1984). Worth it purely for the song "Bad".

    What's Modern History Like?

I think good questions to ask yourself before you choose Modern History are "am I good at English?" and "can I write four essays in two hours?". If the answer to either is "no", you ought to perhaps reconsider.

    APPLIED yet?

I won't be attending university in New South Wales, so I'm not applying for anything through UAC. Instead, I'll be "returning" to the motherland, and hopefully attending Auckland, Otago (Dunedin), or Victoria (Wellington). As NZ has no UAC equivalent, you apply to each university individually...

What album(s) did you listen to today?

XTC - Oranges & Lemons. Despite having being released in 1989, this album has a very '60s feeling about it, even down to the cover.

What album(s) did you listen to today?

Jah Wobble - Inspiration of William Blake (1996). You wouldn't think that someone reading Blake's poetry over reggae/ethnic beats would work. But it does. And it's beautiful.

    What's Modern History Like?

I found Modern History to be a very interesting course - the truth bettering even the greatest fiction and all that. However, I always felt like WWI was almost an overly simple "obstruction" to the more interesting parts of the course. Perhaps it's just the nature of that part of the syllabus...
