B Applied Finance & Commerce (Prof Accounting)

Well I find it strange you think MQ is good. I've graduated a long time ago and have horrible memories of it. When someone asked me some related questions this was my reply: I've spent 6 years at macq uni and here's what i think about it. relatively small campus macq feels really cheap like a...

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

So its almost a new year, how are recent graduates holding up? Enjoying your job? Not liking it? Share your experience here.

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

Depends entirely on what you are studying and what you're trying to get into. As this is the business forum the high school you went to certainly can matter. If you're doing dentistry and other things of course the high school you attended has no relevance whatsoever. Employers I know would...

A Norwegian students desperate call for help

In my opinion and from what I've heard, if you take everything into account I've heard good things about University of Melb. I am based here in Sydney so I know all about UNSW and USYD, they're extremely overrated. I would say ANU and Melb are the only universities worth going to.

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

You guys have barely done much professional work and now you think you're set for life? I know plenty of grads who are unable to secure work after their vac program including grad program too. Most of the work they do is fairly uninteresting and after a year or two they: 1. Quit and do...

UNSW vs. MQ for actuarial (POLL!)

What do you know? You're just a first year student who knows nothing. Just a student who is getting owned by the marketing glitz and glamour of university. You haven't even finished yet, nor do you work in that field. I know exactly all about the actuarial students who think gettin 99+ ATAR and...

UNSW vs. MQ for actuarial (POLL!)

I do not recommend anyone to study actuarial because it is incredibly hard to get a job. I believe that definitely over 50% of the graduates do not work in that field and by the time you get 2nd year or 3rd most drop out of it. I strongly believe that only 1-2% of the top actuarial students...

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

Please don't talk to me as if I'm a little kid crybaby. 'If you work hard enough you'll get anywhere'. Well duh, blame nobody but yourself. You talk like a university marketing rep- 'Come and enrol you'll make big $$. Obviously everyone is responsible for their own personal growth and career...

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

@Trebla, nice post I agree with what you say and your good intentions for writing a very helpful guide but it doesn't change the fact that there are still too many students at university. Look at the number of jobs posted and number of people who apply for it. At the end of the day we all end up...

What careers are in high demand?

No field is in demand, not even in nursing. While australia does need more nurses there are not enough nursing grad positions. You could look into allied heathcare like physio or similar. I've written a blog about career choices and compiled news articles regarding the job market. here...

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

What I'm saying is get a degree only if the employer or line of work requires one. In fact the most ideal situation would be to have direct employer contact. Like I'll do this course if it's really useful and be guaranteed employment for your company. Remember, we still have to write cover...

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

Well you just said it, "for most people, it will be "uni - unrelated entry level position - related entry level position - dream job". See the thing is, most of us don't need uni degrees. If you went to a top5 selective/private school and done extremely well you can use that on your resume to...

For those who have graduated.. where are you now?

I graduated couple years back, haven't found anything relevant. I know that most people like 95% of each class have not found anything substantial, which makes their degree worthless. There's obviously too many grads for too few jobs leaving many unaware disappointed and many practically...

Photovoltaic and renewable energy- any students here?

Photovoltaic and renewable energy- engineering program. Are there any students doing this course. What do you think of it? I'd like to get the unit outline for core subjects 2nd and 3rd year subjects. Where would you guys work after graduation? Research or selling PV?

    really easy.

Would a double major in financial economics and finance a good idea?

Re: Which major is better for employment: economics or financial economics? there are no jobs in finance. finance is so broad. the finance jobs you think you want only exists for the elite who get first class honours. now the finance you might be looking at is just simply accounting.

Would a double major in financial economics and finance a good idea?

Re: Sydney economics vs macquarie applied finance?? (im interested in finance) dont bother, finance major and degrees are a joke.

    AFIN353 and AFIN352

yeh don't do afin329, that subject has quite a high fail rate. afin352 is a little similar but the course is structured so that you know how to prepare for it- the final exam consists of questions from the textbook chapter questions. the compulsory fin310 is a terrible subject with no guidance...

    Econ334 final exam

posting this here for future students who ask about this subject. final exam is ridiculously easy, in fact the easiest subject throughout whole mq. don't panic, subject makes you think its hard but it not. its much easier, think of acst101 but even way easier. little to no maths involved...
