Last time i had one of these questions i used that method and got 0/2, they are testing y12/11 syllabuses and thus if you use that (which is essentially y9/10) i don't think they'll give you marks, or 1/2 at best.

Ah, studying for midyears and I've just hit a mental blank on one of my questions: Show that y=mx-2m^2 is tangent to the parabola x^2=8y I've tried differentiating to find the gradient function, letting x=m and thus finding the equation but that results in the wrong answer :O Please help :)

Could you try positioning and space for a technique? e.g. A film shot where there's one character standing in the middle of the shot whilst everyone else is around the sides or behind, or vice versa? If they're all alone then they obviously don't belong...
