Sweet lol. @Schoey, yeah I know engineering is an applied science, but I meant I'm more likely to do BSc as opposed to BE.

What do you reckon would be better for an engineering degree, 4U mechanics or HSC Physics? Obviously it might vary depending on what stream of eng you pick, but I've heard that uni physics is really math-based. Although it's unlikely I'll do engineering anyway as opposed to science, but still...

Study whenever you want - it's really a competition for students who have genuine passion for the subject, and the NQE is an exam to select the best of the best. Still, even just doing well in the exam is pretty rewarding. Can start 'studying' now if you wish, but it shouldn't be forced. Learn...

Yeah actually I should've been more specific; when I say you could "Do the Olympiad" I mean you could sit the National Qualifying Exam, where stuff is given out like High Distinction, Distinction, Credit etc.. Then if you are amazingly good and do well in that, you can progress further. But...

You actually have to be in Yr11 or younger to sit the NQE, as the actual Olympiad takes place in Year 12 when the top students from each disciple are selected. It's kinda good that it's in Yr11, as you don't really have anything important happening. It's a good experience though, and yeah it...

There's also Olympiads for chem, bio, physics and maths I think (might be others). They're a lot harder than the HSC and you really have to know your stuff to do well in them. If you're really interested in the subject I'd definately advise giving it a go, it's pretty fun.

No, I think the sciences are pretty balanced now. If there were more maths in the courses, it'd be forced. Like really, it'd just be a lot more of rearranging equations to find the unknowns. Because they are limited to the levels of maths they can put in - like they can't use advanced calculus...

wonder if anyone on BOS got 99+ without any extensions or physics or modern (modern seems to be the physics of the humanities lol) solid effort if they did.. then again 99 is a solid effort no matter what you do

exactly So spending the time making your own notes is pretty much the same as or even better than "actually reading the ones given to me . Also if you make your own notes you can get them from a variety of sources so it's basically a composite of all the good things about each.

yeah you could give maths a shot. it's a lot better than in junior years I reckon, especially if you've got a teacher that makes you derive each and every formula yourself. makes you appreciate it i guess.

what do you guys reckon the best physics book is that has lots of QUESTIONS (and solutions)? jacaranda fails in this department imo. cheers
