Because I'm not a student in either of the faculties. I'm in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, and the Morven Brown comp labs suck and all way uphill in upper campus.

Laptops generally guarantee you of taking more notes than when you handwrite, and your hands are less sore. :) You don't have to worry too much about losing your notes either.
You definitely should file up your case to your tutor, if he/she ignores you, take it to the course coordinator (unless it's the same person, then well, contact the faculty). I don't think you should be disadvantaged in any way that you had nothing to do with.
Just saying:
Advertising and Public Relations are studied under the Media program instead of the commerce program, and basically anyone can take marketing or human resources management as long as you can pick a minor.
I couldn't log onto uniwide with my netbook yesterday while I was in the library too.
Ended up using the library computers that are a bazillion times faster. o_o
