Australia MIGHT go into a recession

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03-17/ramadan-and-fasting-during-naplan-tests/105052358. Christians don't complain about lent being during NAPLAN season. Even if they did, there should be no special treatment (given that NAPLAN is during Lent this year, Id say they arent getting any)...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

Im not saying immigrants need to find themselves flannos, thongs and chuck some prawns on the barbie. At the same time though, I think its stupid to be complaining about how the NAPLAN shouldnt be on during Ramadan. Sorry, this is Australia, maybe give Ramadan a miss for your kids.

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

Couldnt agree more and a nice, no rage bait post either. Dont get me wrong, Im all for immigrants celebrating their culture and honestly, it's great having so many different cultures around. However, ultimately you have to fit in and be accepting of the countries values and institutions. I...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

I think there needed to be a braver discussion about risk vs reward, safety vs freedom, short term vs long term with COVID. It was too reactionary trying to solve a short term problem without any regard to the long term. Unfortunately, we still haven't had a proper reflection on COVID which...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

The problem as well is the way they are treated, like compared to corporate they are treated woefully. Comparing management styles where I work (corporate) vs my partner (an ICU Nurse), the management style in healthcare is 20-30 years behind modern best practice. Like, so many issues in the...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

It would be good if we could get this right. Unfortunately the business lobby has been very effective at expanding the skilled migration list a bit too generously. They especially dont want these jobs though and they dont do them (the latter being the difference). Also, interestingly you...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

Honestly, can we breed some strong outdoorsy types for the trades, Australia is in desperate need of those more than office workers.

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

I was thinking along the lines of nurses, other health workers, hospitality people (chefs) among other things. With nursing and healthcare specifically, because of the requirement on Visa's to work in the regions, skilled migrants are an unfortunate necessitybecause they do prop up critical...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

I don't think anyone is keen on it. The fact is though we need migration in some form to fill skill gaps, especially short term. As the pandemic demonstrated, Australia will have major skills shortages if the migration tap is turned off completely. The bigger issue with migration though is...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

Im not that old...Also, I remember 10 years ago people were saying the exact same things about the property market. Im not saying its easy and for some people, their circumstances make it very hard. But for a lot of people, it is doable.

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

My advice, dont waste time at uni on pointless degrees, stay home as long as you can (if that option is available) and be savvy with money. Getting into the market is harder than in was, but it is still do able with good money management.

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

Just to broadly expand the private sector. Realistically, the public sector has been driving growth in Australia over the past few years since COVID (noting that this is largely pushed by NDIS/Health care type spending). I think there is a golden opportunity to make Australia a bit more...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

I think Australia has some good fundamentals that can keep it out of a recession. At the same time, Australia does need to do more with respect to boosting private investment and private industry. The US is always considered the gold standard of attracting private investment but the...

Australia MIGHT go into a recession

One of the things that changed my perspective on life and the media was back in 2020 when Australia broke the record for the longest period without a recession (it was 30 years, to put that in perspective, the longest the US has gone without one is 10 years). That achievement was barely...

    Zelenski and Trump debate :0

It happens here as well, just in the US it is way more prolific. Honestly, if the government banned a lot of this grey corruption you would see a significant improvement in policy.

    Zelenski and Trump debate :0

Just on this point, what Musk did was legal. In Australia (cant speak for the US), actual corruption and bribery arent common simply because the law/systems/processes are so stringent and anti-corruption authorities are very proactive (I imagine the US is similar, especially with the FBI etc)...

    Zelenski and Trump debate :0

Democrat logic: Put young, high potential politician in as VP Work out that she really isnt that competent/popular, do nothing to help her/prop her up etc Decide that she is so bad, you'd rather run a clearly over the hill dude in his 80s instead The over the hill dude flops hard at the debate...

    Zelenski and Trump debate :0

I dont think you really understand government. Public Servants dont block reform, we cant. We can be "frank and fearless", but ultimately we do what the government says provided it is legal and actually possible. To me this whole narrative of "unelected bureaucrats" and "deep state" is...

    Zelenski and Trump debate :0

This x 1000. So many people out there do not understand the significant differences between running a business and a government/department. I hear people rattle on about how government departments need to be run by people with "real world experience", because running your family's onion farm...
