    Quadratic equation Problem

1st part: consider roots of given quadratic as alpha, beta: therefore, alpha + beta = ((p-4)^2)/3 (sum of roots one at a time) also alpha*beta = (1-2p)/3 (product of roots) NOW let the roots of quadratic we are looking for be alpha + 2, beta + 2 thus sum of roots yields alpha + beta + 4 = -b/a...

    Urgent Chem Questions

Micelles are negatively charged because the negatively charged oxygen atoms from the polar water molecules (which themselves form ion-dipole forces with the charged end of the soap anion) stick out from the micelle and form its outer perimeter. Remember, this is what keeps them stable and stops...

    Phonons in BCS theory

A side consequence of this is that the magnetic field generated due to induced current is STRONG enough to just balance the gravitational force acting on the magnet, thus causing magnetic levitation.

    German Continuers Thoughts

Post your thoughts on this afternoons exam. For me, it wasn't too bad, although some of the listening and the writing screwed me over. :\ Oh well, it's my 12th Unit, and I only did it as an interest, so it really doesn't matter what mark I get.

    Minimising Stupid Errors

Hey guys, What is the best way to minimise stupid errors when doing past papers? I find it really frustrating when I find 'silly' (or shall I rather say, careless) mistakes around my paper. Some stupid errors include: - adding instead of multiplying (or vice versa) - forgetting to carry a...

I'll try out the independent paper this sunday and see how I go. I've heard it is hard, so why not? Really, nothing can be as hard as Carrot's paper (I hope).

    Show vs. Prove

If you are required to "show" something, is that the equivalent of "proving" it? Eg. 1985 HSC Q7. It asks to SHOW that the minimum time taken is 27/4 minutes. Does that mean it is valid to sub in this value into the second derivative to show it is greater than zero, or must one FIND this value...

Take UNSW Computing 1 with Richard Buckland online for free, starting soon!

I am really interested, but I am busy with HSC exams during that time (15th October to 6th November). I understand it is a long time, and a LOT of material would be covered by then, but I would still be willing in getting a head start on a course that I will eventually end up doing in uni (I...
