    I would have probably skipped 14(c) if I was sitting the exam and come back to it at the end... it took me a lot of time to come up with that solution! And this is coming from someone who got 100% in his HSC for Maths Extension 1.

    Yeah, you can also do the triangle thing, that's fine. Letting An = 0 should be fine. Not proving that 1+sqrt2 is a max will lose you at most 1 mark.
