What requirements are needed to do veterinary medicine?

Unfortunately a surge in vet student numbers has meant declining employment. So doing a vet degree doesn't mean you will be able to be a veterinarian.

What requirements are needed to do veterinary medicine?

For CSU you will need a fair bit of animal work experience in farms. They tend to hold that more highly than ATAR compared to most of the other unis. Most of the unis don't publish ATARs but might be worthwhile contacting their admissions offices. The big city unis often have entries in the high...

    undergraduate vet course

Both UQ and USyd are AVMA accredited ie. can work in the United States. Both are also accredited in the United Kingdom. US degrees are often DVM's. UK degrees have many Bachelor degrees for vets. However, accreditation is what you need to work. Where you live/accommodation costs probably play a...

Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience?

Possibly a bit late to this discussion as the choice may already have been made but here goes anyways. It may be worth clarifying your goals. Yes, as above, do what you love! Absolutely. But you must know what you love. Have you done any work experience with animals? Are you happy doing any work...

Internal transfer from law to vet

Your WAM is probably border line. Have you got lots of animal and veterinary experience? If you are really committed to vet then worth applying at some of the other unis. Lots of people in the vet degree come from other degrees these days.

    Bvetbio/DVM questions

Atar was about 98 a few years ago for the old style BVSc and has dropped to about 97. The BVetBiol/DVM may have a higher ATAR as only a portion of the DVM students will go via that route. They will need to leave room in the DVM for students coming from other degrees or other unis. Do you know...

    CSU Wagga Vet Science

ATAR: Wow, that seems really low!

    CSU Wagga Vet Science

Re: CSU Veterinary Science Program Advice Needed!!! The starting wage for one in five veterinary graduates is a lot closer to $0, zero dollars. Underemployment has skyrocketed.

    CSU Wagga Vet Science

Re: CSU Veterinary Science Program Advice Needed!!! Vet science has become easier to get into with the three new universities. You have some good experience. Bare in mind a few things: -A lot of vets leave cattle/sheep work after only a few years because of the long hours and low wages...

What's course do I need to do for veterinary.

You need to define more specifically what you want to do. Do you want to work in animal medical research? Do you want to work in animal welfare government policy? Do you want to work as a veterinary clinician with cats and dogs? Or cattle/sheep. Do you want to work in agribusiness in a...

What is generally the cut off for Veterinary science in USYD?

http://sydney.edu.au/vetscience/bvsc/entry.shtml According to this it was 97.35 in 2012. But I have heard of people getting in with 1 or 2 lower if they have amazing veterinary experience. The trend seems to be towards lower entry requirements because of the increase in veterinary student...

Veterinary Science Commitment Form and STAT

This sounds like you are a bit unprepared for a veterinary career atm. It is best to get multiple weeks experience BEFORE deciding on a career in this field. The TV shows depict an entirely different view compared with the daily tasks of a veterinarian. It is a tough profession with...

Minimum GPA to transfer from bach of science to vet medicine??

There are seven vet unis. Some require a lot more experience and lower GPA. So it is definitely worthwhile trying to get at least 10 weeks experience with vets.

Atar requirements for veterinary science (Anywhere near Sydney)?

The second link you have posted is for the post graduate degree (6 year double degree DVM). 2013 was the last year they offered the five year under graduate BVSc

Atar requirements for veterinary science (Anywhere near Sydney)?

Usyd is post grad now so is based on your other university degree marks and not ATAR. Unimelb and Uniade are the same. JCU and CSU seem to need the lowest markz but you need lots of farm animal experience. The marks for most vet degrees are declining due to low wages and rising unemployment of...

Ways to get into vet science that don't involve an atar?

Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney are all post graduate so not really based on ATAR. You can also transfer into murdoch, UQ, and JCU after doing other degrees. Best if you can get at least 10 weeks of work experience in vet clinics to help your application. It is becoming easier to get into vet...

    Vet Science Cut-Off Mark

Is it possible to know what it's like being a vet as a student? Or is it only after putting the real boots on that one can understand. Things like euthanasia, owners that won't pay, bosses that tell you that you're not allowed to give discounts because otherwise the clinic will go broke. It...

    Equine Science vs. Vet Science

The best undergraduate degree for vet is the one where you can score the highest marks. Particularly if aiming for unimelb or usyd as their main criteria is usually marks. Some people do one, two or more degrees trying to get in. Melb is now a DVM postgrad degree so you will need to check with...

    Veterinary Science?

Wait until you graduate, that is when the real stress starts. Rising unemployment, people complaining about costs, having to kill animals, bosses asking you to sell more, having animals suffer because owners don't want to treat, boredom because you can't use the knowledge you learnt at uni due...

University Prep Course (Alternative Uni Entry)

Have you done any work experience with vets? You should get several weeks experience before dedicating 7 or more years of study. To be a vet you need to have an interest in talking to people as that is what you will do most of the time. You also need to like marketing and finances as selling...
