B.Economics vs Economics majors in B.Commerce

I don't think you can double major when doing Comm/Engo. If you combine Comm with Law, then you can potentially double major. Also, if you're looking at IB/MC, then Comm/Engo (with a single Comm major) is a very strong degree. But if you are considering economics-related fields (e.g. RBA...

B.Economics vs Economics majors in B.Commerce

For Commerce/Economics, UNSW and USYD are virtually indistinguishable. I don't think the same can be said for engineering, but you'll need to consult with others.

B.Economics vs Economics majors in B.Commerce

I'm doing finance and business eco, and have found neither particularly challenging. It's probably slightly easier to score higher in eco because of fewer group assignments (vs. finance). Being quantitatively inclined helps a lot in economics (and finance). Also, after doing the...

B.Economics vs Economics majors in B.Commerce

I'm doing Business Economics under the Commerce stream. Under Business Eco, I've done every course that you would do in a normal eco degree, bar ECON1401. So, effectively, I've completed a standard economics degree. And with Business Eco, you can undertake Honours in either Economics or...

Intl. Exchange prorams for Business School

For Wharton and NYU, 90 is the bare minimum. My mate has a WAM of 91 and didn't make it to Wharton. For the California colleges, I don't think you need a WAM of 85 ... fairly sure ~75 would suffice.

    Is FINS3625 hard?

If I had my time again, I'd do FINS3625 in sem 2. The assessments are much easier relative to sem 1. It's weird that it's that way, especially given Kyung's notoriety for screwing people over in 1613.

    UNSW Subject Reviews.

ECON3101 - Markets and Frictions: Ease: 9/10 Content was fairly straightforward, which coupled with a nice assessment structure (only a mid-sem and final), made the course pretty easy. I actually found this course slightly easier than ECON2101. Content: 8/10 The content was certainly...

    ECON1102 vs ECON1203 Semester 2

I don't think that most people are put off by the qualitative nature of the course ... the main issue is the brutal marking

    FINS1612 or FINS1613 Sem 1?

Jason applied no scaling when I did FINS1612 in sem 1, 2015, which was notwithstanding the average for the 2nd exam being around 50%.

    UNSW chit chat thread

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 ACF is all about investment banking, i.e. corporate finance. It's fairly interesting and not too difficult. I'd do it in sem 2 tho, as the assessments are easier (average for our mid-sem was 54%).

    80% attendance rule

It depends on the course I guess, but I've come short of 80% attendance for at least one course per sem and haven't faced any consequences.

    commerce/graudate enquiry

To add to that, some companies like Macquarie issue grad offers conditional on you maintaining a certain average.

    Yeah, again no scaling.

    The UNSW Scaling Thread

No scaling when I did it (sem 1 last yr).

Subjects to Pick for 1st Year Commerce 2nd Sem

Maybe try a gen ed like astro. You could even pick 2 gen eds - I've had several mates do that in order to transfer into law.

    UNSW chit chat thread

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 That's fair enough, although it really depends on the employer. For example, several of the IBs went through my transcript during the interview, and really grilled me on how I was keeping myself busy. So, with those firms, you would have to justify why you took...

    UNSW chit chat thread

Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016 I'd argue the opposite: Plenty of employers closely read the academic transcript, wanting to know what subjects you have excelled at or done poorly. And if you're doing 3 subjects only, then you'd definitely need to have a good explanation as to why.

    WAM after uni graduation

The importance of your WAM is largely dependent on the industry/firm that you're applying to. For example, the investment banks generally expect a Distinction average as a minimum, whereas the commercial banks would place their cut off around the Credit mark. Also, your WAM is only important...
