I took it that Kolmias was joking by saying that big 4 accounting is no where near as competitive as IB thus big 4 accounting would take in students from a range of uni's, not just the best... could be wrong tho

Would the business not get the next person on their shortlist if someone declined before the placement started?

i've read that circa 100 get interviews with PCA and 25 get interviews with UBS, then, 8 cadets are selected. Not sure how reliable or accurate that information is though.

1. no. you'll be gaining invaluable interview experience. 2. depends what the contract says, it would be a very bad idea in any case. You'd likely get blacklisted by a few companies.
