    Atar estimate !!!!

this is true! I go to a top 10 school and last year a friend of mine got 97.5+ atar with just band 6'g in Maths X2, Maths X1 and Chemistry, there was also quite a few students with only 9 unit of band 6's (low- mid 90's) who got atars of 98+

What concepts fo you need from Prelim Physics for HSC Physics???

Uh i probably don't have the best advice on this as i never really used the textbook for study but our school uses Physics in Focus

validation post for me and those people in the same boat as me who have given up on year 11 and prelims

It's okay!! It may feel terrible right now and you probably won't be able to use these marks for early entry into uni courses or international universities but other than that year 12 is like a fresh new start.

What concepts fo you need from Prelim Physics for HSC Physics???

You need to be able to apply the base knowledge from modules 1, 3 and 4 in the year 12 Physics syllabus directly. The dynamics topic isn't there explicitly but you will need to be able to apply ideas and concepts about force, momentum etc in later physics modules. With Physics alot of the prelim...

Do more people do private tutoring or go to coaching colleges?

Yes, most people ( i would say that around 120/160 if not more at my school) do at least two forms of tutoring. I know at least 70 students attend tutor for 4U math, 3U math and chemistry. Most of the tutoring is from coaching collages. I myself do 4U/3U at dr du and chem and phys at ace/matrix...

    Selective schools

Hi! I go to a top 10 selective school and have friends from Sbhs too so thought i could help. We students thrive off the competition. It's what drives you to do better, be better. As for average, its quite literally just an average. There is absolutely no point in comparing yourself to the...

one week until prelims! advice please <3

Don't stress! Fortunately prelims is not the end of the world :) For math i would recommend just doing past papers rather than writing notes (personally i don't think notes work for math .. but thats my own experience). Also i'm not sure how much help it would be as by the end of YR 11 i had...

Is it worth it doing Extension English

At my school it was compulsory to take English Extension 1 in Year 11 ( so all 150 of us had to take the course). In the first couple weeks i had decided that this was not it and i was going to drop it. The end of year 11 came around quite quickly and i had to decide my HSC subjects. I ended up...

    Written with tears.

I hope you're feeling a little better, there has been some really wholesome advice on this thread and i urge you to follow them. Luckily, your in year 11 so there is time for you to improve. I agree with the others in saying that if Arabic is taking up a lot of your time and you find yourself...

Is chem mod 8: Applying chemical ideas hard?

It is actually very doable!! All you need is to go through your given textbook and they should explain everything pretty well. Its combines quite a few things learnt in previous modules, so other than the spectra stuff quite a bit of it is just revision. Good luck!

failed adv and ext math :(

Personally i have really enjoyed the 4U course. I quite like maths, so i enjoyed learning about the harder and more complex topics. Not gonna lie though at times it does get really challenging but i am a firm believer in really understanding the concepts behind each formula and topic which has...

anyone go to Dr Du right now?

Touche. But i go to du for tutoring, the friendship is merely a bonus.

    TRIAL DISCUSSION

I take physics, chemistry, 3U and 4U maths, english adv and extension english 1. My schools rank is top 5 for reference. Our trials have been hard. Like really hard. We kind of expected them to be like that though. Overall, getting results back next week hopefully they go well.

anyone go to Dr Du right now?

Me! although this is late i have been at Du since year 9. I've always been in A1 so i have had du. The course starts with complex --> integration --> vector --> proof --> mechanics. i love it at du, i have made some really good friends and my marks have all been really good.

failed adv and ext math :(

hey! I personally cannot relate to your problem. I myself have never transferred to a selective school, i have been going to a top 10 selective school since year 7, and i haven't received a mark below 80 for math since year 8 and i currently take Extension 2 maths. Why i wanted to comment was...

Difference between FULL selective and PARTIAL selective school?

i know alot of people have replied to this thread already but i just wanted to add some thoughts. I am currently a year 12 student at a TOP ranked selective school, i have been here since day 1 in year 7 and it has probably had one of the biggest impacts on my secondary school learning...
