I'm not sure about joining in 2nd year, but if you are keen you can email them and request to join advanced engineering or something along those lines. Check the advanced engineering page on their website.

I just used this and typed in the course code... So it should be right unless anyone in the course asked for their offers not to be published. I'm not sure where to find the actual UAC data, but apparently the offers are public information unless you request for them not to publish yours. =/ right?

According to UAC 35 main round offers were made for this course. So 20 more than they suggested initially.

I'm not sure, but i would assume the costs would be covered by the uni. Or maybe it's one of those subjects where 'students may incur material costs'... And i'm pretty sure it is just for one semester, then if you do well enough you can take advanced engineering in the subsequent years of your...

Yes, however this observation was contradicted by Hertz's observation that they were NOT deflected by an electric field. Thompson's observation, at a later date, that they were deflected by electric fields showed that Hertz was wrong thus 'resolving' the debate.
