Where do you sit on the Political Compass?

that was fun! I'm left libertarian, as is my boyfriend (despite out frequent liberal vs labour arguments). I wonder where the democrats sit...

    Most crucial science

Agriculture. With population growth, it will be essential to find more efficient ways of producing food, or we'll all starve. Plant disease control (particularly wheat and rice), increasing yields and decreasing inputs will all be critical over the next 100 years.

    Would you buy Stupid Water?

    1) Soft drink, sometimes flavoured milk. 2) No - unless its somewhere you have to, like concerts and music festivals etc. 3) plain. I like water, If I wanted something that tastes "nicer" i'd buy soft drink. 4) I'd buy it if it was cheap. Water is water. I'm not going to pay more for water...

    OTEN Students?

apparently there's lots of OTEN students out there... maybe they're just too busy (or too diligent) to procrastinate on BOS. Have you studied before? I did a uni degree, so i'm finding the TAFE stuff pretty light (except one of the assignments which is a real shit and I've been putting it...

New Rider in next Inheritance Book?

I thought Dragons couldn't survive if their rider dies. I hope the next book makes a bit more progress than the last, I felt a bit bogged down in detail (which is good, to a point, but I want to know what happens next!!!!). In other news, I just finished "Dragon Haven" - the 2nd in Robin...

    OTEN Students?

i'm doing OTEN - cert 4 in Frontline Management. I started a month ago. Hoping to get it finished by July so I can start a uni course by Distance in second semester. There don't seem to be wikispaces for any of my subjects so far - in fact, not a lot of online resources full stop. And this...

    Too tired of travel

yeah the walk from and to redfern and to and from the train station at the other end were actually really handy - meant that even on lazy days i got at least an hour of exercise (high intensity when the train was late...). Oh - and during exams, get a train thats at least 3 trains before...

    Too tired of travel

You really do get used to it. It does suck, but once you get used to the longer hours, its not so bad. Its the same when you first start full time work - the first few weeks are exhausting, but you get used to it. Just takes a few weeks to adjust. You'll also figure out the most...

    Semester 1 Chatter Thread (2010)

to stop you from falling asleep... and to make a horrible subject just that little bit more horrible.

    Science books + Usefulness

I didn't use any chem textbooks and got through with a distinction - just go to lectures, you'll be fine.

can you borrow core subject textbooks from the library for the whole semester?

you can usually get them from reserve for a few hours - and if you borrow them last thing before the library closes, you get to keep them for the night. I found with the really expensive ones, a few hours a week in the library and photocopies of the pictures / summaries (like for anatomy) was...

    Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology)

are you studying Sociology 101 (or whatever its called, the basic first year sociology subject)? I'm thinking of doing it next year and want to know if its interesting.

    Why....

Why would you come into a forum for people doing TAFE and post something like that? I have a uni degree and i'm currently doing a tafe course in Management because its cheap (much much less than a Masters), its flexible, and it will get me into higher paying career than the one i'm currently...

    Being late to lectures??

just don't rock up 10 mins late first thing in the morning, and then walk right across the front of the lecture theatre with a cup of coffee in you hand - some lecturers will ask where theirs is (not fun in front of 200+ people.). And its just rude and disrespectful (which clearly you...

    which is worse???

it would take about 2 weeks before you stopped turning up for the 1 hour class on wednesday. especially if its just a lecture. take the day off, you can work (like paid work), or just have time off. the 3 hour break will be really handy for doing research for assignments, group work...

Health Science or Environmental science: need help deciding

i have a friend with a Masters in Environmental Science, on top of a B. Science, and she worked in retail for 2 years before she was able to find a job in environmental science. So unless you're willing to move to Canberra when you finish, be aware that environment jobs are much harder to find...

    Casual or Part time Job?

there are plenty of weekend type jobs which are technically "Casual" but have set hours. I was paid as a casual but worked the same hours (about 12 per week) on weekends for 4 years, which worked well for me since i had about 35 contact hours so couldn't work during the week. My sister...
