    why on earth

Just don't buy them, or use the library copies, or wait a few weeks for it to settle down, or go to the co-op in town (it's better too). But yes, online is available from UCB or Co-op

    Primary School Teaching

UNCLE B.Teach/Arts is 66.00 this year, less if you pay your own way. I think all teaching courses dropped a few points this year, I doubt Syd was 80 when I started, just not many dropped as many as UNCLE.

    First Years

I did 3350 Structure of English. It was, at times, an interesting course, with a pretty good assessment load/requirments, mostly take home sheets. And the class was pretty casual too.

    Primary School Teaching

UAI score dropped 20 points. 20! It was around 66 this year I think.

    Happy Feet

I went and saw Happy Feet the other day, and I see what you mean. It's a nice bright cheerful animation, but it certainly does have the capacity to raise a few questions. Best thing about it is that it can be slotted into a stack of units and doesn't have a rating that requires permission notes.

As SJ said, it is quite natural to have that many lecture hours on a monday. When you get a little more experienced with uni and find out which lectures/lecturers are worth seeing and which ones you can just skim over the online notes, it will be less natural for everyone to attend said 4 hours...

    Bach Arts/ Master Teaching (primary)

How much prac work do the other unis offer? Secondary teachers at UNCLE get 18 weeks over the 4 years, plus some observation days in first year, and depending on your course, other contact in later years, for example my course had us designing, setting, and marking an assessment task for a...

    Primary or Secondary?

Yep, from what I've heard it'll gain a year, with possibly the more common b teach or whatever the uni calls it losing a year, so instead of a 4 year/1 year split in options, it'll be 3/2. But that's just the latest proposal I've heard. The current Dip. Ed. program is a flawed. Yeah, it's...

    Happy Feet

It can often be very effective looking at these sort of things with senior classes, hell, we do units on picture books now, we just have to make it clear we're not 'dumbing it down' for the students. I haven't seen it, but I'm sure I will end up doing so at some stage, as you say, there are...

    Life of Pi

I prefer Martel's short stories, particularly Manners of Dying and The Facts behind the Helsinki Roccamatios... I think they were called anyway, it's been a while. They were more originaly I thought, more engaged with life.

Aw, LING isn't that bad, it only takes a couple hours a week if you show up and it's not that hard to get a decent mark. Though, I only did a 3000 course, I don't know what's expected in the 1000 levels. @ Sprinles' suggestion that ringing the uni will get a reliable response, that's the...

    Primary or Secondary?

I've always had a preference for Stage 6. You'll always get stages and students that respond well and respond poorly to you, you just have to ensure you work towards their education and don't get drawn too much into personality clashes. It helps if a student, regardless of stage or motivation...

    Private teachers salaries

Oh yeah, I perhaps should have added a few more details... By international schools, Iruka was correct, I was referring to schools that teach to international standards. Many of these schools don't just focus on one curriculum, such as French or US, and will cater for a variety of educational...

Bach ED PRimary- Any one else?

I know one of the lecturers/tutors there, I don't know if it's Strathfield campus though, and she's a Secondary teacher educator, but it sounds like a pretty good program to go through. Best of luck.

    Primary or Secondary?

Secondary, roughly same reasons as above. There really is no 'better' because both areas have huge pros and some cons, depending on who you are and where you're passions lie. If you can't really decide on where you wish to teach, I recommend middle school, which can be seen as the best of...

    Private teachers salaries

The tricky thing with this is that the private system is just that, private. Depending on the school you sign with, you can have access to any number of agreement packages, all in line with the new award you heard about, but some exceeding that quite generously. International schools, now...

I'll be graduating next year, results for this semester are a UP, HD and D, an unexpectedly high way to end a fairly non-impressive transcript.

pre-service teacher education re school-based mental health

Yep, long thread title, you get that. Anyway, I'm off to Canberra tomorrow night for a forum on Monday about mental health in schools, specifically in regards to how it is addressed in pre-service teacher education. I'm going to chuck a few questions here, and if anyone doing an education...

    Homosexuality in Australia

So if Australian society acknowledges that there are viable options in regards to the tradition of marriage, and these options separate the state from any religious responsibility, why is marriage still an issue in relation to homosexuality? It seems as though society, even secular societies...

    Homosexuality in Australia

The Christian Bible is not definitively against homosexuality, nor is it against the marriage of homosexuals. As with most things, it has come down to interpretation. This is from one of the better written, balanced and researched articles I've found on this subject, written from a retired...
